What are the responsibilities and job description for the Reliability Technician Apprentice position at Altria?
We are currently seeking candidates to join us at our Manufacturing Center in Richmond, VA to participate in a Mechanical skilled Apprenticeship Program.
Upon successful completion of a 4-year apprenticeship, candidates will receive a Journeyman’s card in the Manufacturing Maintenance Fixer classification and an applied science associate’s degree in technical studies from Brightpoint Community College. During the course of the program, apprentices will be expected to work OJT on their assigned shift and attend classes at Brightpoint Community College during non-work hours in order to satisfy the educational requirements of the program. All educational expenses will be provided as part of the program. Apprentices will learn process control, electrical techniques and general work processes of the manufacturing environment.
Successful workers will be able to demonstrate strong troubleshooting skills, will work effectively in a high output, multi-craft manufacturing environment, and maintain satisfactory academic performance and attendance throughout the program. They will be expected to participate with IWS teams to identify problems and opportunities, and to develop and implement solutions.
For this position, we are seeking highly motivated, experienced and accountable individuals who can work in an industrial, unionized environment. Qualified candidates will:
- Be at least 18 years of age, legally eligible to work in the U.S. and for Philip Morris USA.
- During the course of the program be willing to work any assigned shift, attend classroom training outside of work hours, and work overtime when needed for approximately 4 years.
- At the completion of the program be willing to work on any shift and to work overtime, weekends and holidays on a regular basis.
- Possess a minimum of 1 year of experience/instruction related to the Mechanical Maintenance field to include military, technical and vocational training.
- Have a high school diploma or general education degree (GED).
The starting wage for these positions is $35.20 per hour and additional compensation may be available through our manufacturing incentive program.
