We are currently looking for a Director, Enterprise Architecture to join our Enterprise Architecture Team in Richmond, VA, but are open to a remote work arrangement if you are willing to travel 25–30%.
This role reports to the Senior Director, Enterprise Architecture, and Infrastructure Operations, providing people leadership while advising, influencing, and shaping enterprise architecture strategy, standards, and priorities. You will be accountable for ensuring alignment between business goals and technology investments, translating business needs into scalable, secure, and future-ready technology solutions while driving effective execution in close partnership with infrastructure, engineering, product, and business teams. Success in this role requires experience supporting or partnering with manufacturing organizations and an understanding of how technology, operations, and business objectives intersect to drive enterprise performance.
What you will be doing:
- Leading and managing the Enterprise Architecture team, including hiring, performance management, coaching, and development
- Defining and driving the enterprise architecture vision, strategy, and multi-year roadmap aligned to business priorities and Enterprise Technology and Infrastructure & Operations strategies
- Advising, influencing, and providing input on architectural direction and priorities; final prioritization resides with the Senior Director, Infrastructure & Operations
- Establishing and enforcing enterprise architecture principles, standards, patterns, and governance practices (including Architecture Review Board participation)
- Overseeing the design of end-to-end enterprise solutions and user experiences across platforms supported by Infrastructure & Operations, ensuring scalability, usability, security, and operational sustainability
- Partnering with Infrastructure & Operations leaders, product owners, engineering teams, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into effective architecture and experience designs
- Reviewing and approving architecture deliverables to ensure quality, consistency, accessibility, and alignment with enterprise standards and target-state architecture
- Driving alignment of IT investments with business capabilities through capability mapping, roadmaps, and portfolio optimization
- Leading application rationalization, cloud adoption, modernization efforts, and reduction of technical debt
- Delivering impact assessments, cost/benefit analysis, and risk-informed recommendations to guide strategic technology decisions
- Evaluating and adopting emerging technologies (e.g., cloud, AI, automation, data platforms) to enable innovation while maintaining governance and scalability
- Driving adoption of user-centered design practices, usability improvements, and continuous iteration in coordination with I&O delivery practices
- Collaborating across security, data, integration, and infrastructure domains to ensure cohesive end-to-end architecture across the enterprise
- Managing vendor and partner contributions related to architecture and experience design, aligned with governance standards
We want you to have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Design, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- 10 years of experience in information technology, enterprise architecture, or digital experience design roles, along with 5 years of people leadership experience managing architects or comparable technical teams
- Validated experience supporting or partnering with manufacturing organizations, with an understanding of production operations, supply chain processes, and the technology capabilities required to enable operational excellence.
- Demonstrated experience defining and executing enterprise-wide architecture strategies, roadmaps, and governance models
- Proven experience delivering enterprise-scale digital platforms and solutions in partnership with infrastructure and delivery organizations
- Strong understanding of architecture domains (cloud, application, integration, data, and security) and modern architectural patterns (cloud-native, API-led, event-driven)
- Experience with architecture governance practices, including standards, principles, and review boards (ARB)
- Experience with user-centered design and experience architecture methodologies
- Strong collaboration with Infrastructure & Operations, engineering, and product teams
- Ability to balance design quality with operational reliability, scalability, and delivery timelines
- Strong business acumen with the ability to translate strategy into actionable architecture decisions
- Excellent communication skills to distill complex technical concepts into clear, actionable guidance for senior stakeholders
Preferred qualifications
- Enterprise Architecture certification (e.g., TOGAF) or equivalent experience
- Experience with enterprise architecture tools (e.g., LeanIX or similar platforms)
- Experience working in regulated environments with strong risk, compliance, and governance requirements
- Background in large-scale transformation initiatives such as modernization, M&A integration, or platform consolidation
The starting salary is based on but not limited to experience, knowledge, and qualifications in determining compensation decisions. The Salary Range for this position is: $139,100.00 - $243,500.00.
