About the job
For over 15 years we have been making power tool products — wet/dry vacuums, air compressors, air movers and fans. Our warehouse and customer service team are here in West Chicago.
This job is pallets and freight. Most of what we ship goes to large retailers on pallets, by LTL truck. You build those pallets, stage them, and get them on the truck.
A pallet has to reach the customer the way it left here. That means stacking it so the load holds together, wrapping it well, and labeling it right. Retailers are particular. A pallet that shifts or comes apart gets refused.
Our inbound comes in waves a couple of times a year. Some weeks are heavy on receiving and unloading containers, and some are not. We need someone who can move between the two.
What you'll do
- Build pallets for LTL shipments — stack them so they arrive intact
- Wrap, label and placard pallets the way each retailer wants them
- Count what is on a pallet before it gets wrapped
- Write down what is on each pallet, so our team and the customer both know what is in the shipment
- Weigh and measure pallets and check them against the bill of lading
- Stage pallets by carrier and pickup time
- Load trucks at the dock
- Pull merchandise and move it safely to the shipping bay
- Receive incoming shipments and write down what came in
- Keep count of what comes into the warehouse and what goes out
- Work with the customer service team on what has to go out each day
- Handle product with care so it does not get damaged
- Unload floor-loaded containers
- Tell your supervisor right away if something is missing, short or damaged
- Drive a forklift and pallet jack
- Keep your area clean and safe
What we're looking for
- Warehouse experience
- You can stack a mixed pallet so it does not shift or fall
- Good with counts. Most of what goes wrong on a pallet is a count that was off before it got wrapped
- Forklift experience is a plus. We train and certify on our own equipment, so you do not need to bring a card
- Can lift up to 50 lbs and stand for most of a shift, with or without reasonable accommodation
- Can switch between jobs as the day changes, including the heavier weeks when containers land
- Works well with the team, and talks things through with coworkers
- Organized, and can sort out a problem when it is urgent — a short count, a late truck, a pallet that has to be rebuilt
- Steady attendance
Nice to have
- LTL freight
- Retailer routing guides and pallet specs
- Bills of lading
- Container unloading
- RF scanner or barcode
- Conversational Spanish

No necesita traer tarjeta
- Bills of lading
- Descarga de contenedores
- Escáner de código de barras
