Position Overview

You own the design, build-out, and execution of Alto’s in-house fleet maintenance program. You take the function from zero to one. You define what “good” looks like, stand it up, and make it run. You act as the subject matter expert who guides leadership on scope, sequencing, risk, and investment. You do not need to turn wrenches daily. You must know the work well enough to set standards, challenge assumptions, and earn technician credibility.

This role is based in Dallas, TX and follows a hybrid work model with a mix of in-office and remote days.

What you’ll do

  • Own fleet maintenance end to end. You are accountable for uptime, availability, cost control, and compliance across all markets. This role directly impacts supply hours and revenue.
  • Build from scratch. You design and launch Alto’s in-house maintenance program. You decide what we do in house, what we outsource, and when we expand scope for EV fleets.
  • Act as the technical authority. You guide leadership on sequencing, risk, and investment. You know the work deeply enough to set standards and earn technician credibility.
  • Design the operation. You determine which depots support maintenance bays. You design bay layouts, vehicle flow, safety standards, and equipment requirements.
  • Define the playbook. You create SOPs, inspection standards, quality controls, and maintenance metrics. You build repeatable systems that scale market to market.
  • Build the team. You define technician roles, skill levels, and career paths. You hire, onboard, and develop leads and technicians. You set clear expectations for output, quality, and safety.
  • Own the budget. You build and manage the maintenance budget. You translate strategy into cost models and approve maintenance spend.
  • Run the program. You operate fleet utilization, maintenance, and repair across markets. You prioritize work based on uptime, safety, and cost impact.
  • Own parts and systems. You manage inventory, parts ordering, and accountability using Fleetio or similar tools. You ensure clean data and tight controls.
  • Manage vendors. You define third-party strategy for overflow and specialty work. You hold vendors accountable to cost, quality, and turnaround standards.
  • Ensure compliance. You own federal, state, and local regulatory requirements including hazardous materials and waste. You oversee licensing and registration readiness.
  • Partner cross-functionally. You work with operations, risk, and finance to align depot design, vehicle flow, staffing, and fleet planning.

What you bring to the table:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Technical degree preferred. Advanced degree a plus.
  • 7 - 10 years of progressive fleet or automotive maintenance leadership experience. EV or mixed fleet experience is strongly preferred.
  • 5 years leading technicians, leads, or frontline supervisors across one or more locations.
  • Proven track record standing up or running fleet maintenance programs with measurable improvements in uptime, cost per vehicle, and downtime reduction.
  • Trusted technical owner who thinks independently, weighs tradeoffs, and advises leadership with clarity and honesty.
  • Strong experience owning or materially influencing maintenance budgets, labor models, parts spend, and vendor costs with clear cost control outcomes.
  • Deep fluency in maintenance data, fleet systems, and operational metrics. Able to diagnose issues quickly and course-correct with speed.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate in ambiguous, early-stage environments. Comfortable making decisions with imperfect inputs and adjusting fast.
  • Strong cross-functional instincts. Able to partner effectively with operations, safety, and finance while balancing local execution with company-wide standards.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% to depots as needed to stand up operations, support teams, and ensure consistent execution.

Perks of the ride:

  • Dallas based / In-office hybrid
  • Competitive base salary, bonus equity in a rapidly growing company.
  • Medical, dental and vision insurance
  • 401k with 100% employer match up to 4%
  • Professional development reimbursement up to $1,000
  • Unlimited PTO
