Alto is seeking an experienced Controller to lead our corporate accounting team. This role reports to the VP of Accounting and manages a team of 12.
The Controller is a critically important position with responsibility for the accuracy and reliability of our financial information. The ideal candidate has implemented and managed best practices when it comes to running a high functioning accounting department and can serve as a thought partner on strategic financial decisions for the business while also being hands-on and willing to dig into the details alongside the team.
This role is well suited to someone who enjoys problem-solving, process improvement, leveraging technology, and thinking both strategically and tactically. The ability to communicate clearly, build relationships cross-functionally, and lead with integrity will be key to success in this role.

- Lead Alto’s accounting team and processes; manage and develop the team with energetic leadership that fosters an environment of professional development and productivity
- Direct, plan, and supervise staff responsible for all operational accounting functions such as revenue, inventory, fixed assets, AR, AP, treasury, payroll, and GL close
- Streamline and implement accounting policies, procedures, and best practices to make continued improvements in the speed and accuracy of Alto’s financial information
- Manage relationships and services provided by third parties such as offshore accountants, tax preparers, and external auditors
- Provide leadership and support for financial software implementations, upgrades, and/or integrations as needed
- Collaborate with internal development teams to ensure in house software systems appropriately record and report financial transactions
- Support potential corporate transactions including capital raises or M&A integrations (systems and financial) as needed
A Bit About You:
Minimum Qualifications:
- CPA license, 10 years in accounting, and 3 years as a Controller (or equivalent)
- Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP, especially inventory and revenue accounting
- Strong critical thinking skills and able to communicate key points clearly and concisely
- Very detail-oriented, responsive, tech-savvy, operationally focused, and a good cross-functional business partner
- Curiosity and desire to implement scalable and efficient processes and ideas, with experience putting this into practice
- Willingness and ability to coach, mentor, and develop team members and help them realize their full potential
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5 years audit experience at a “Big 4” or large regional firm
- Start-up or high-growth experience, with an entrepreneurial attitude
- Experience working in pharmacy or healthcare-related industries
- Tech savvy with an aptitude for automation and system-based solutions
- Proficiency with Sage Intacct, Netsuite, Coupa, ADP, and/or Carta a plus
