Key Responsibilities
- Preoperative Assessment: Conduct thorough assessments of patients before surgery to identify any potential risks or complications. Review medical histories and obtain informed consent.
- Surgical Planning: Collaborate with the surgical team to create a safe and efficient plan for each procedure, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are prepared.
- Patient Education: Educate patients and their families about the surgical process, postoperative care, and recovery expectations.
- Intraoperative Care: Assist the surgical team during procedures, providing sterile and aseptic techniques, monitoring vital signs, and administering medications as needed.
- Postoperative Care: Monitor patients closely in the recovery room, assessing their condition, managing pain, and providing emotional support.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed records of patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes, ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards.
- Collaboration: Work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care and optimal patient outcomes.
- Emergency Response: Be prepared to respond quickly to any complications or emergencies that may arise during surgery, following established protocols.
- Infection Control: Adhere to strict infection control protocols to minimize the risk of surgical site infections and other complications.
- Continuous Learning: Stay updated on the latest advances in perioperative nursing, attending training sessions and workshops as needed to maintain and improve your skills.
- Current registered nurse (RN) license and able to work in the state of HI.
- Certification in perioperative nursing (CNOR) is a plus but not required.
- A minimum of 2 years of recent experience in acute care setting and in perioperative nursing.
- American Heart Association BLS and ACLS certification required.
- Strong clinical and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and high-stress environment.
- Knowledge of surgical equipment and sterile techniques.
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems.
