Summary – This position is responsible for transporting employees to and from offsite housing to the worksite. This position may also require delivering freight by driving gasoline or diesel-powered straight (box) trucks long distances intrastate.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (These are not in any hierarchical order)

    • Transport employees from job site to housing location daily
    • Transport employees from activities, appointments, and other outings
    • Maintain or exceed standards for service and quality.
    • Complete daily vehicle pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
    • Reports all hazardous conditions, defective equipment and accidents or incidents to the supervisor immediately.
    • Keep company vehicles clean and free of debris.
    • Understand how to operate GPS, Two-Way Radio and/or Cell Phone to navigate effectively.
    • Perform any other tasks and functions as directed by management
    • Maintain accurate activity and vehicle report logs
    • Follows all safety procedures and protocol as dictated by local policy, federal and state regulations, and standard practice.
    • Effectively communicate with facility regarding schedule, progress and to receive additional instructions.

Dependability and punctuality are mandatory.  Must be able to work a varied schedule which includes punctuality are mandatory. Must be able to work a varied schedule which includes weekends and some holidays. Must be respectful in demeanor and appearance. Must observe and comply with all company policies and safety practices. Self-motivated, able to develop and work as part of a team and possess strong time management, organizational and communication skills.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This job has no supervisory responsibilities. 

 

Qualifications- To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/ or ability required.

  • Must possess a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License with passenger endorsement.  Air brake endorsement is not required upon hiring but must be obtained after hiring. 
  • Farm Labor Vehicle endorsement must be obtained after hiring.  Training will be provided. 
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Minimum 2 years commercial bus driving experience
  • Drivers must maintain a valid State Driver’s License and have an acceptable DMV driving record.
  • All Drivers must pass pre-employment substance abuse screening and DOT physical.
  • Must understand and follow all DOT regulations governing safe driving hours of service, inspection, and maintenance.
  • Must have the ability to read, write and perform simple mathematical calculations with mental ability to handle receipts, read maps, road signs, maintain logs, etc.
  • Must have working knowledge of vehicle safety and control systems.
  • Must be available for varying scheduled trips to accommodate employee movements.
  • Must observe and comply with all company policies and safety practices.
  • Must meet or exceed the medical standards of the U.S. Department of Transportation. 

Education and/ or Experience:

High school diploma or GED and 6 months of job experience and/or training; or the equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Language Skills: Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, SDS Sheets, chemical labels, and other special operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals required for this position. The employee must have the ability to write simple instructions, and to communicate well with others.

 

Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate simple math such as adding, subtracting, and multiplying. 

 

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

 

  • Must be able to meet physical and safety standards demanded by the position. (“ADA”) H.R. 2273/s. 933 II. 4. c.) 
  • Must be able to sit and remain alert while driving for an aggregate period of up to 11 hours.
  • Must be able to enter and exit the vehicle's 10 to 20 times a day. Cab floor level is generally from 36 to 66 inches above ground level, with entry and exit achieved with the assistance of various configurations of steps and handholds; also requires occasional bending, twisting, climbing, squatting, crouching, and balancing.
  • Must be able to occasionally reach above shoulder level, at waist level and below waist level for maneuvering and directing the controls to operate the truck and trailer and lift gate.
  • Must be able to operate a lift gate with proper regard for personal safety and the safety of persons in the proximity of the loading and unloading areas.
  • Must be able to stand and/or walk for extended periods on surfaces such as concrete, wood, metal, gravel, asphalt, and sometimes on slippery and wet surfaces.
  • Must be able to open and close cargo doors, climb into and out of vehicles, fuel vehicles and check engine oil and coolant levels.
  • The employee must be able to operate equipment in a safe matter.
  • Requires agility in each hand.

 

The employee may be required to work varying hours including weekends and holidays.

Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

Drivers may spend a large percentage of time outdoors, exposed to potentially difficult environmental conditions. Drivers may be subject to irregular work schedules, temperature and weather extremes, long trips, short notice for assignment of a trip, tight delivery schedules, delays on route and other stresses and fatigue related to driving large commercial motor vehicle on crowded streets and highways in all kinds of weather.

Drivers typically spend 50-75% of on-duty time in the bus, van or truck. While driving, operators are exposed to noise and vibration levels, which may be higher than those typically experienced in passenger cars.
