We are recruiting an experienced Senior Drayage Dispatcher for an established trucking operation specialising in container movements through the Port of New York and New Jersey.

This is a senior operational role for someone with substantial experience managing high-volume port drayage and the confidence to independently control daily traffic, drivers and equipment.

The operation handles approximately 8,000 containers annually, operating company-owned trucks, chassis and gensets alongside a dedicated driver fleet. The majority of movements are container drayage from the NY/NJ ports to destinations within approximately 200 miles.

The Role

You will take ownership of day-to-day dispatch activity, coordinating container movements from the ports through to final delivery while ensuring drivers, equipment and appointments are managed efficiently.

You will have significant autonomy in managing traffic and will work closely with the Logistics Manager and wider operations team.

• Responsibilities will include:Dispatching company drivers across daily container movements
• Coordinating imports and exports through the Port of New York and New Jersey
• Managing pickup and delivery appointments
• Allocating trucks, chassis and gensets according to operational requirements
• Monitoring container availability, terminal status and delivery schedules
• Managing driver utilisation and daily route planning
• Responding to operational issues, delays and changing priorities
• Maintaining close communication with drivers, customers and internal operations teams
• Ensuring equipment is positioned effectively across the operation
• Managing high-volume traffic while maintaining service levels and operational accuracy
• Taking ownership of problems and making independent operational decisions when required

What We're Looking For

This position requires a proven trucking and drayage professional. We are specifically looking for someone who has spent several years operating in a demanding container dispatch environment.

• You should have:Strong experience as a Drayage Dispatcher, Truck Dispatcher or Senior Dispatcher
• Extensive knowledge of NY/NJ port operations
• Proven container drayage experience
• Experience dispatching company drivers
• Strong understanding of chassis, trucks, gensets and container equipment
• Experience managing high-volume daily traffic
• Excellent knowledge of appointment-driven port and terminal operations
• Strong organisational and problem-solving skills
• The confidence to operate independently and make operational decisions
• A track record of managing demanding trucking operations where priorities change throughout the day

Candidates coming purely from general freight brokerage or long-haul dispatch without significant container drayage experience are unlikely to be suitable.

Compensation

$85,000–$95,000 per year, depending on experience.
