What are the responsibilities and job description for the Preclinical Operations Associate | Sample Management & Logistics | Boston, MA position at Altium Medical?
Preclinical Operations Associate | Sample Management & Logistics | Boston, MA
About the opportunity
Our client is a clinical-stage oncology biotech in Greater Boston, moving fast toward its first IND. They need a hands-on operations person to own the physical backbone of the preclinical program: the samples, test articles, and materials that the science runs on. This is a roll-up-your-sleeves seat for someone a few years into preclinical operations who wants to own the day-to-day, in a small team where the work is visible from day one.
This is a Boston-based role. There is remote flexibility, but you need to live in the Greater Boston area (this is a must). If your background is hands-on preclinical sample and material operations, read on.
What you'll do
- Own sample and material management end to end: receipt, labeling, tracking, storage, inventory, and disposition of preclinical samples, test articles, and CMC materials
- Run the logistics the science depends on: ordering, domestic and international shipments, receiving, and chain-of-custody, working with CROs and vendors
- Keep inventory and records clean and audit-ready in a LIMS or equivalent, supporting data integrity and compliance
- Support the preclinical team hands-on: freezer audits, material transfers, lab supply management, and study documentation
- Light project management and more as the program grows: timelines, action items, and cross-functional tracking
- A growing slice of IND-readiness support as filing approaches
Must have
- Location (must): you currently live in the Greater Boston area and can work on-site. The sample and material work is physical and local, so this is non-negotiable
- Sample and material operations in a preclinical or clinical biotech, pharma, or CRO: hands-on experience owning sample, specimen, or material management and its logistics (shipping, receiving, inventory, storage, chain-of-custody) as a core part of your role
- Preclinical background: preclinical, discovery, or nonclinical experience in a biotech, pharma, or CRO setting
- Regulated environment: experience working under GLP, GCP, or ICH, with strong, audit-ready documentation
Nice to have
- Oncology exposure
- Familiarity with LIMS and inventory or sample-tracking systems
- In vivo, tox, DMPK, or CMC / test-article handling experience
- A feel for how preclinical and clinical development connect
- Early project coordination or junior PM experience
- Hands-on lab experience (sample processing, ex vivo, animal handling)
- A life-sciences degree
Why this role
- You'll see how an oncology drug actually gets built, working shoulder to shoulder with experienced scientists
- An early, growing company with real room to grow and get promoted as it scales
- Exposure to regulatory and IND-submission work as the program matures
- A small, mission-driven team where your work matters from day one
- A varied role where you'll also pitch in and support other team members across the group
Compensation and location
$85,000 to $110,000 base, plus bonus and benefits.
Boston-based and on-site: there is no central office, but the sample and material work is local, so you must live in the Greater Boston area.
If that sounds like you, let's talk!
Please do not apply unless you meet all of the must-have requirements. We review every application, but those that do not meet them will not be progressed.
