What are the responsibilities and job description for the Adult Protective Services Caseworker position at Alternatives for the Older Adult?
BASIC PURPOSE/SCOPE OF POSITION:
Under the supervision of the Adult Protective Services Program Director, provides assessment and intervention services to abused and/or neglected adults 60 and over and dependent adults 18 to 59 with disabilities.
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Intake Receives intake reports and determines if such reports meet IDOA intake standards for abuse, neglect, financial exploitation or self-neglect.
- Assessment and Investigation Conducts a thorough assessment and investigation of each report. Interviews alleged victim, abusers and relevant others in the home environment, when appropriate. Interviews are conducted throughout 10-county coverage area.
- Care Plan Evaluates client needs and provides follow-up, as appropriate. Develops and coordinates Care Plan and will refer and/or secure services for victims from legal, social, and medical service providers.
- Crisis Intervention and Supportive Counseling Provides crisis intervention and supportive counseling to victims and families of domestic violence, neglect or financial exploitation.
- Documentation Documents all client contact, case consultations, and program data, as required. Submits all paperwork in a timely manner for billing.
- Networking Works cooperatively with law enforcement, State’s Attorneys, and networks with other organizations and providers.
- Public Awareness Presents information on Adult Protective Services and mandatory reporting to community organizations and other agencies.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Preferred master’s degree in health, Social Services, Social Work, or B.S. or B.A./B.S. or RN in Health, Criminal Justice, Social Services, or Social Work and one year experience in casework of the elderly or protective services.
Must have a vehicle and a valid driver’s license.
Must be willing to travel to participants' homes throughout 10-county service area.
