Location: Aberdeen, SD and surrounding areas
Wampa Ice Company is currently hiring a dependable, safety-focused Lead Route Driver to support deliveries throughout Aberdeen, SD and surrounding communities. This is a great opportunity for a CDL driver who enjoys independence, leadership, customer interaction, and hands-on work.
This is a seasonal full-time position with the potential to become year-round based on business needs and performance.
Pay & Schedule
- $24.00 - $28.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications
- Full-time, approximately 40 hours per week
- Overtime available during peak season
- Most routes are home daily
Position Overview
The Lead Route Driver is responsible for coordinating and training route drivers while ensuring safe, timely, and efficient delivery of ice products to convenience stores, grocery retailers, and major box stores. This role also includes merchandising, inventory accountability, and providing excellent customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate daily delivery routes and assist with driver scheduling
- Train and support drivers on routes, safety, and expectations
- Safely deliver ice and related products to customer locations
- Stock, rotate, and merchandise ice in customer freezers/merchandisers
- Reconcile inventory and maintain accurate delivery records
- Ensure proof of delivery paperwork and handheld devices are completed accurately
- Maintain cleanliness and basic upkeep of delivery vehicles
- Follow all DOT, FMCSA, and company safety standards
- Provide exceptional customer service at every stop
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Valid Class A CDL preferred or Class B CDL required
- CDL-A preferred for Lead Driver responsibilities
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen
- Medical Examiner’s Certificate required or able to be obtained upon hire
- Previous route delivery, distribution, or leadership experience preferred
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong time management and attention to detail
- Basic math and recordkeeping skills
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs regularly
- Ability to work in changing weather conditions
- Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays when needed
