What are the responsibilities and job description for the MCA Underwriter position at Alternative Funding Group?
Join Alternative Funding Group, a fast-growing direct funder helping small businesses nationwide access working capital. We’re looking for a Merchant Cash Advance Underwriter to take ownership of high-volume deal flow, analyzing creditworthiness, structuring MCA offers, and ensuring portfolio quality in partnership with our ISO Relations, Funding, and Collections teams.
What You'll Do
- End-to-end underwriting: Review applications and stips (3–6 months of bank statements, processing statements, IDs, voided check, proof of ownership, etc.).
- Cash-flow analysis: Assess monthly revenue trends, average daily balance, negative days/NSFs, seasonality, chargebacks, and variability.
- Risk assessment: Identify stacking/positions, liens/UCCs, judgments, bankruptcies, landlord verifications, and industry/state restrictions.
- Offer structuring: Recommend purchase price, factor/fees, holdback % or daily/weekly ACH remittance, and term aligned to guidelines.
- Clear documentation: Record rationale, conditions, and counteroffers in the CRM.
- Cross-team collaboration: Work with ISO Relations on stips and counteroffers; provide performance feedback to refine risk models and guidelines.
- Quality & compliance: Adhere to internal credit policy, fair-treatment standards, verification procedures, and applicable state commercial-financing disclosure requirements.
What You Bring
- 3 years of MCA underwriting with a funder (required).
- Deep understanding of financial statements, bank-statement analysis, risk grading, and credit-memo writing.
- Hands-on experience with industry tools — bank-statement analysis (Ocrolus, Heron, DecisionLogic / Plaid) and verification/search (Clear); CRM/origination platforms such as CloudSquare a plus.
- Strong written and verbal communication; confident presenting to senior management.
- High attention to detail, sound judgment, and urgency in a high-volume queue.
- Bachelor's in Finance, Business, or Accounting preferred; equivalent MCA underwriting experience is fully acceptable in place of a degree.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary $90,000–$150,000, depending on funder experience and deal authority, plus performance-based bonus.
- Paid Time Off (PTO) and paid holidays.
- Defined growth pathway into Senior Underwriter.
- Exposure to the full MCA deal cycle and direct collaboration with leadership.
- Collaborative, fast-paced team based in-office at our Fort Lauderdale HQ. [Schedule: e.g., Mon–Fri, 9–6.]
