OverviewAltamura is an authentic Italian trattoria and forno dedicated to bringing the warmth, flavor, and hospitality of Italy to every guest. We are currently seeking professional and experienced Captains (Lead Servers) to join our front-of-house team.
As a Captain at Altamura, you are not only responsible for taking orders — you are the leader of the table experience. From greeting to farewell, you oversee the full guest journey, ensuring that each visit is seamless, warm, and memorable. Captains serve as role models to Server Assistants, embodying the elegance, efficiency, and care that define Italian hospitality.
Responsibilities
- Welcome guests with warmth and professionalism, setting the tone for an exceptional dining experience
- Guide guests through the menu with fluency in Italian cuisine, wines, and house specialties
- Take food and beverage orders, ensuring accuracy and clear communication with the kitchen and bar
- Offer thoughtful wine and cocktail pairings; be knowledgeable in Italian wines, aperitifs, and classic cocktails
- Maintain high standards of table maintenance, timing, and guest engagement throughout the service
- Demonstrate deep knowledge of the menu, ingredients, preparation methods, and Italian culinary traditions
- Lead and coordinate with Server Assistants to ensure smooth service and proper table support
- Handle guest requests and special occasions with grace, discretion, and care
- Close out service with professionalism, expressing genuine appreciation and inviting future visits
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience in full-service Italian restaurants, preferably in a lead server or captain role
- Strong knowledge of Italian cuisine, wine regions, spirits, and cocktails
- Refined sense of hospitality, manners, and guest communication
- Excellent time management and ability to multi-task during high-volume service
- Natural leadership skills and ability to mentor/support junior FOH staff
- Professional appearance and well-spoken communication style
- Familiarity with steps of service and sequence of fine dining or traditional Italian restaurant operations
- POS system proficiency (Toast)
