The Host is responsible for creating the first and last impression of Alta. This role welcomes guests with warmth, manages the flow of the dining room, supports reservations and seating, and helps set the tone for the entire guest experience.
The Host must be calm, organized, polished, and deeply hospitable. This role is not just about seating guests — it is about controlling the door, protecting the pace of service, communicating clearly with the floor, and making every guest feel seen from the moment they arrive.
Key Responsibilities- Greet every guest warmly and professionally upon arrival.
- Manage reservations, walk-ins, wait times, and seating flow.
- Create a strong first impression that reflects Alta’s hospitality standards.
- Seat guests thoughtfully based on reservations, pacing, server sections, and dining room flow.
- Keep the door, entry, and host stand organized, clean, and welcoming.
- Answer phone calls and guest questions with warmth and confidence.
- Confirm reservations and note special occasions, allergies, VIPs, and guest preferences.
- Manage guest expectations around wait times, table readiness, and seating requests.
- Help prevent over-seating or uneven section flow.
- Communicate clearly with servers, support staff, the Hospitality Floor Lead / Sommelier, and management.
- Support smooth communication between the door, floor, and management.
- Thank guests sincerely as they leave and help create a strong final impression.
- Bring guest concerns, delays, or service issues to management quickly.
- Prior host experience in a fine dining, upscale, or chef-driven restaurant concept.
- Strong hospitality instincts and guest awareness.
- Ability to stay calm, organized, and gracious under pressure.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Strong understanding of timing, pacing, reservations, and dining room flow.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a polished presence.
- Professional appearance and warm guest-facing demeanor.
- Comfort using reservation systems and basic restaurant technology.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
The ideal Host is warm, sharp, organized, and confident. They understand that the guest experience starts at the door and that every greeting, wait time, seating decision, and goodbye matters.
They can manage pressure without showing stress, make guests feel welcomed even when the restaurant is busy, and communicate with the floor in a way that keeps service smooth and controlled.
CompensationThis is an hourly, non-exempt position eligible for overtime in accordance with applicable law. Compensation may include hourly wage, applicable tip pool or service charge participation if eligible under Alta policy and law, and other benefits provided by company policy.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to move throughout the restaurant continuously during service.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to carry wine bottles, glassware racks, service tools, and dining room supplies safely.
- Ability to bend, reach, polish, stock, organize, and support dining room and beverage service needs.
