Special Services Director

Job Summary
The Director of Special Services provides comprehensive leadership for all specialized education, behavioral health integration, and disability support programs at Alta Vista Academy. This role ensures the success of students with diverse learning and emotional needs through oversight of special education, social-emotional learning (SEL), and the Disabilities Services Program. The Director also plays a key role in staff training, implementation of special services and programs, and collaborative planning across departments.

Duties

• Oversee the design, delivery, and compliance of special education and 504 services in accordance with IDEA and state regulations.
• Manage the Disabilities Services Program, including adaptive supports, accessibility accommodations, and community resource coordination.
• Lead the implementation of social-emotional learning (SEL) initiatives and behavioral support strategies schoolwide, providing individual, group, and family support using evidence-based strategies.
• Collaborate with the Behavioral Health team to integrate therapeutic interventions within educational settings.
• Provide training and professional development to teachers and staff on disability awareness, inclusion, and trauma-informed practices.
• Participate in IEP and 504 meetings, ensuring collaboration among educational and clinical staff.
• Oversee data collection and progress monitoring related to student growth and program effectiveness.
• Maintain positive relationships with families and external partners serving students with disabilities.

Experience

• Proven management experience in a social services or special eudcation setting, preferably within programs serving individuals with developmental disabilities.
• Demonstrated success in program development, implementation, and evaluation.
• Extensive experience working directly with people with developmental disabilities or in behavioral health environments.
• Strong relationship management skills to collaborate effectively with community partners, families, and internal teams.
• Master’s degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or related field.
• Valid Washington State certification in Special Education or Educational Administration.
• Strong knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, positive behavior supports, and evidence-based interventions.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Pay: $84,000.00 - $96,000.00 per year
