Role Description The Sewer is a temporary, on-site role based in Houghton, MI, focused on producing and modifying compression garments and related textile products. Day-to-day tasks include sewing, tailoring, and dressmaking activities such as measuring, cutting, assembling, and finishing garments according to specifications and quality standards. The role involves fitting garments to ensure proper compression and comfort, making alterations as needed, and maintaining neat, organized work areas and equipment. The Sewer will collaborate with team members and occasionally interact with customer-facing staff to support timely, accurate order fulfillment. Attention to detail, consistent quality, and adherence to production timelines are essential to success in this position.
Qualifications
- Strong garment construction skills, including Dressmaking and Tailoring, with experience working with medical or compression textiles preferred.
- Ability to perform accurate Fitting, measuring, and alterations to achieve proper garment function and comfort.
- Effective Communication skills and a customer-focused mindset to support internal teams and, when needed, patient-facing staff.
- Customer Service orientation, with the ability to respond to feedback and adjust work to meet individual needs and specifications.
- Proficiency with industrial or domestic sewing machines, cutting tools, and basic garment production equipment.
- High attention to detail, manual dexterity, and ability to follow written instructions, patterns, and production standards.
- Ability to stand or sit for extended periods, manage repetitive tasks, and maintain consistent quality within production timelines.
