Position Summary
The Project Manager serves as a primary client-facing technical and operational leader, responsible for managing analytical projects from initial engagement through final data delivery. This role ensures customer requirements are fully understood, translated into executable laboratory plans, and delivered with technical accuracy, regulatory compliance, and exceptional service quality. The position works cross‑functionally with laboratory operations, quality assurance, sample management, and administrative teams to ensure client expectations are met or exceeded.

Position Summary

The position works cross‑functionally with laboratory operations, quality assurance, sample management, and administrative teams to ensure client expectations are met or exceeded.
General Accountability
- Serve as a key liaison between clients and ALS laboratory operations to define analytical needs, project scope, timelines, and deliverables
- Ensure effective communication of client requirements to laboratory and administrative teams
- Confirm services provided meet defined technical, regulatory, and quality expectations
- Build, maintain, and grow strong client relationships through professional, timely, and solution‑oriented communication
- Manage and interpret client requirements, proactively anticipating needs and addressing challenges
- Lead projects from scope definition through reporting and data delivery
- Identify, document, and resolve client concerns; recommend corrective actions and communicate issues to laboratory management
- Respond promptly and accurately to client inquiries and requests
- Communicate analytical findings and project status clearly to clients
- Inform clients of new services, capabilities, and developments within the laboratory
- Prepare and provide project quotations and job specifications
- Participate in marketing and business development activities, including trade shows, as appropriate
- Identify and communicate new business opportunities and market trends to management
- Collaborate with clients and laboratory personnel to define project specifications and schedules
- Set up and manage projects within the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
- Coordinate with laboratory staff to ensure seamless execution and exemplary customer service
- Work with Sample Management to ensure appropriate container type, quantity, and logistics
- Review incoming work to ensure requests align with project and regulatory requirements
- Track and manage project progress, communicating status updates to internal teams and clients
- Prepare, review, and approve invoices for assigned work orders
- Ensure consistent, client-specific reporting formats and deliverables
- Review analytical data for accuracy, completeness, and consistency with historical results
- Ensure assigned projects meet defined QA/QC objectives and quality system requirements
- Review and approve certified analytical reports
- Escalate technical, quality, or compliance concerns to QA, Laboratory Operations, or Management for resolution
- Participate in Quality Assurance Plan (QAP) development as required
- Verify final reports include all required components prior to release
- Collaborate closely with Sample Management, Laboratory Operations, QA/QC, and administrative staff to maintain alignment on client and project priorities
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Strong leadership and motivational abilities
- Excellent organizational and time‑management skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines
- Proficiency with LIMS and related laboratory software, or ability to learn quickly
- Ability to prepare technical quotations and project proposals
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate sensitive information diplomatically
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in analytical laboratory operations
- Prior experience as a Laboratory Project Manager
- Experience preparing for and leading client visits and technical meetings
- Direct experience with Department of Defense (DoD) compliance requirements
- Working knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations
- Experience reviewing and interpreting environmental laboratory reports
- Hands‑on experience operating analytical instrumentation is a plus
- Ability to speak and hear clearly while communicating with staff, management, and clients
- Ability to sit and/or stand for up to 100% of an 8‑hour workday
- Manual dexterity to operate computers and standard office equipment
- Sufficient vision to read reports, data, and operate equipment
