ALS United Greater New York’s mission is to support and empower the ALS community through a collaborative approach to fostering bold research initiatives, advancing national and state advocacy, and providing comprehensive care to individuals and families affected by ALS. Our staff is professional and supportive of each other, as we work together to serve ALS patients and their families. 
 
We are currently recruiting a part-time (30 hours per week) Assistive Technology Professional. The Assistive Technology Specialist will actively engage with individuals and families who are registered with ALS United Greater NY for the purpose of introducing the benefits of assistive technology.   
   
Examples of these engagements will include reviewing low- and high-tech communication solutions, alternative access to computers and phones, and Smart Home Technology, etc. The ideal candidate will also provide opportunities for on-site demonstrations, set up, and implementation of AT.  For some who are not ready to utilize these options, the AT Specialist may simply introduce AT options that could be of use later.  
 
Additional areas of responsibility will include but not be limited to the following: 
  • Respond to requests for AT information and referrals. 
  • Assess for, suggest, and assist with training AT devices, software, and strategies. 
  • Work uniquely with each family, given differences in comfort with technology. 
  • Make periodic home visits to set up and train on AT. 
  • Provide in-person and virtual presentations to patients, families and the professional community on various assistive technologies and durable medical equipment. 
  • Establish online ‘office hours’ for regular availability to anyone with AT related questions to ALS. 
  • Communicate and collaborate with ALS Clinics, Care Services staff, and Community Organizations on AT and equipment use and training for
     new devices. 
  • Maintain and troubleshoot AT devices within Equipment Loan Program (ELP). 
  • Maintain perspective on new and developing technologies in the field of Assistive Technology. 
  • Advocate for and assist individuals and families to obtain needed assistive technology, including acquisition of
     devices, maintaining, repairing, adapting devices and technical assistance as may be needed. 
  • Develop collaborative relationships with other agencies to expand awareness and use of our assistive technology services. 
  • Document and compile service data to generate quarterly and annual reports. 
  • Attend regular staff meetings.
  • Perform other duties as requested by Supervisor and Administration. 
  • Participate in organizational events, some of which are held on nights and weekends. 
 
Required Skills:
Current ATP certification preferred
3 years’ experience with AT for persons with ALS, geriatrics or similar 
Bachelor's degree in Rehab related field preferred
Ability to work some weekends and evenings  
Valid Driver’s License 
Familiarity and experience with low and high-tech Assistive Technology to address communication, computer and phone access. 
Self-Motivated and able to work independently 
Knowledge of PowerPoint or similar presentation software 
Patience, Caring, Understanding of the implications of ALS on the human condition

Flexible work from home options available.

Salary : $75,000 - $80,000
