About the role 

This management position is responsible for coordinating and managing corporate financial systems, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general accounting, and financial statement preparation and analysis, for the ALS Group USA legal Entities.

Responsibilities

Specific Responsibilities:

• Assess current accounting operational processes and systems, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes or efficiencies
• Oversee accounting systems and controls to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial information
• Responsible for month-end and year-end close of financial statements, reporting packages, account reconciliations and GL analysis
• Provide managers with analysis, reports and advice on financial activities that will enable them to better manage operations
• Ensure compliance with corporate and government policies, procedures, and regulations
• Prepare and file governmental returns in a timely manner
• Assist in maintaining and developing internal financial policies, operating procedures, and controls
• Support finance department initiatives, such as software and systems implementations, departmental improvements with research, planning and implementation as required
• Coordinate the annual external audit process
• Oversee preparation of annual budgets
• Provide support to Operations management team for Financial Analysis and Planning
• Develop performance metrics and project reviews to assess team performance
• Supervise, motivate, and develop staff
• Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures
• Other duties as assigned by Regional Controller

• Very strong in accounting software, MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
• Capability to supervise, manage and lead staff

• Strong work ethic

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Batchelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• CPA accounting designation
• Minimum 8-10 years industry experience (with IFRS) in general accounting, preferably in a multi- currency, multi-branch environment
• Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience preferred

Physical Demands:

• Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities
• Ability to use and view a computer screen and data for up to 8 hours per day
• Manual dexterity to do repetitive tasks such as data entry
• Ability to communicate via telephone and e-mail without assistance
