Maintenance Technician

Position Purpose

The Maintenance Technician is a key member of our people-first organization and the driving force behind safe, reliable daily operations. This role takes ownership of the facility, production equipment — including saws and automated roof and floor truss tables — vehicles, trailers, and building infrastructure, keeping everything safe, functional, and ready for the team that depends on it. The successful candidate is a hands-on problem solver who thrives with limited supervision, finds issues before they become downtime, and understands that their work directly impacts safety, production efficiency, on-time delivery, and team success.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the preventive maintenance program – perform daily, weekly, monthly, and annual service on production equipment, saws, automated truss tables, vehicles, trailers, tools, and facility systems.
• Troubleshoot and repair – diagnose mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues, identify root causes, and recommend fixes that prevent repeat failures.
• Respond with urgency – prioritize breakdowns, work orders, and urgent repairs based on safety and production impact, communicating status along the way.
• Keep equipment ready – ensure machinery, tools, vehicles, and trailers are safe, functional, and available when the team needs them.
• Support improvement projects – assist with equipment installs, moves, shop layout changes, and facility upgrades that make operations better.
• Stay organized – maintain spare parts, supplies, tools, and storage areas in a clean, labeled, inventory-ready condition.
• Document your work – complete work orders, inspection forms, and repair records accurately so equipment history and open items can be tracked.
• Communicate proactively – keep the Plant Manager informed of downtime, repair status, parts needs, and safety concerns before they become surprises.
• Coordinate outside support – work with vendors and contractors when repairs require it, ensuring work areas stay safe and company standards are met.
• Champion safety – follow lockout/tagout, PPE requirements, and all safety procedures; identify hazards, correct what you can, and immediately report what you can't.

Core Competencies

• Two or more years of hands-on maintenance, facilities, manufacturing, or equipment repair experience; truss manufacturing experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical troubleshooting, power tools, hand tools, and meters.
• Self-starter who works safely and effectively with limited supervision while managing shifting priorities.
• Ability to read and follow work orders, equipment manuals, diagrams, and written safety instructions.
• Strong troubleshooting, organization, prioritization, and follow-through skills.
• Clear, professional communication regarding repair status, downtime, and safety issues.
• Computer literacy sufficient to complete work orders, send updates, look up equipment information, and maintain records (Microsoft Office basics).
• Valuable extras – CMMS/preventive maintenance software experience; welding, fabrication, or trade skills; forklift or lift certifications; valid driver's license.

Safety & Work Environment

This is an active, hands-on role performed indoors and outdoors across the facility, shop, and yard. The Maintenance Technician regularly stands, bends, climbs, lifts, and works from ladders or lifts when trained and authorized, and may be exposed to equipment noise, dust, weather, and typical shop conditions. Required personal protective equipment and lockout/tagout procedures are followed at all times — and any task that cannot be performed safely is stopped and reported. The schedule is assigned based on operational needs and may include early starts, overtime, weekends, or on-call support for urgent repairs.

Pay: $24.00 - $29.00 per hour
