The job of McKinney-Vento Homeless Liaison is done for the purpose/s of assessing and monitoring eligibility and qualified students; providing enrollment support to school site personnel; communicating information to staff and the public; providing complete and accurate records; and providing information and/or direction as may be requested.

Essential Functions

• Acts as a liaison between schools, service providers and the community on behalf of homeless students to ensure that homeless children and youths are identified, enrolled in, and have a full and equal opportunity to succeed in school for the purpose of ensuring compliance with the McKinney Vento Act.
• Collaborates with school personnel to ensure that unaccompanied homeless youth are enrolled in school, have opportunities to meet the same challenging State academic standards established for other students, and are informed of their status as independent students and assisted to receive verification of their status for the purpose of completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
• Creates methods and documentation for student identification, tracking the number and location of highly mobile/homeless students for the purpose of ensuring the students have access to support.
• Distributes supplies, information and other resources for the purpose of ensuring delivery to qualifying students and school personnel.
• Ensures that the parent of a homeless student, or any unaccompanied student, is fully informed of all transportation services, including transportation to the school of that the parent of a homeless student, or any unaccompanied student, is fully informed of all transportation services, including transportation to the school of origin and is assisted for the purpose of accessing appropriate transportation.
• Ensures that public notice of the educational rights of homeless children and youth is disseminated in locations frequented by parents or guardians of homeless children and youths, and unaccompanied youths, including, in a manner and form understandable to parents and guardians and unaccompanied youth (e.g. schools, shelters, public libraries, and soup kitchens, etc.) for the purpose of provide access to the information.
• Ensures that homeless families and students receive educational services for which they are eligible, and referrals to health-care services, dental services, mental health services and other appropriate services for the purpose of helping families and students have their best chance at altering their trajectory.
• Maintains manual and electronic documents files and records (e.g. letters, forms, reports, etc.) for the purpose of providing up-to-date information and/or historical reference in accordance with established administrative guidelines and legal requirements.
• Maintains inventory of supplies and materials (e.g. forms, office supplies, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring items' availability.
• Prepares standardized documents (e.g. form letters and memos, calendars, bulletins, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to other parties.
• Provides professional development to school personnel for the purpose of ensuring identification, enrollment, and educational supports of homeless children and youthSupports homeless families, children, and youths to have access to programming (e.g. Head Start programs, early intervention services under Part C of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), and other preschool programs administered by the LEA, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring students and families receive educational services for which they are eligible.
