Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Lead Wrangler and Activities Specialist. The Lead Wrangler is responsible for overseeing daily horse and livestock operations, supervising wrangler staff, and ensuring the safety of guests, animals, and team members. This role combines advanced horsemanship, leadership, and commitment to guest experience. The ideal candidate will be passionate about providing exceptional guest service and be comfortable with hands-on work in a dynamic environment.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and mentor wrangler staff
- Assist with hiring and training seasonal wranglers
- Care for horses, Scottish Highland cattle, and other animals including feeding, medicating, and exercising
- Assist with vet and farrier visits as necessary
- Provide a safe and enjoyable horseback riding experience with full knowledge of trails, horses, safety and emergency procedures
- Lead horseback trail rides with a minimum of 6-8 guests at a time
- Assist with UTV and snowmobile trail rides
- Assist with event setup and teardown for weddings and other guest functions
- Additional duties may include transporting guests to and from the airport and running errands as needed
- Communicate effectively with the ranch manager, guests and co-workers
- Act as a positive team member helping to promote an excellent work environment and supporting co-workers
- Exhibit a high degree of flexibility at all times to assist with guest and ranch operations while maintaining a high level of professionalism - we are a small team and support one another when it comes time for everyone to pitch in
- Use equipment and materials in a safe and acceptable manner, follow established safety procedures, use appropriate safeguards, and observe common-sense rules of safety in all on-the-job activities
- Perform other ranch duties as assigned
Qualifications
- 5 years professional wrangling or livestock handling experience
- Experience leading horseback trail rides with a minimum of 6-8 guests at a time
- Previous experience with riding instruction at all levels
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to listen and de-escalate any guest concerns
- Friendly, outgoing personality and a positive attitude
- Ability to stay calm and professional under pressure
- Resourceful with excellent problem-solving skills
- Must be flexible and adapt to last-minute guest schedule changes
- Must be comfortable operating ranch machinery (UTVs, trucks, SUVs)
- Must be able to work weekends, holidays and evenings
- Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
Education and/or Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor’s degree in agriculture or related field preferred
- Horse training experience required
- Team riding and/or equine program experience preferred
