Overview
The CNC Lathe Machinist is a skilled production team member responsible for the setup and operation of CNC lathes to manufacture precision components in accordance with AlphaTech’s engineering specifications and ISO Quality Management System (QMS) standards. This position requires advanced technical knowledge in machining processes, blueprint interpretation, and quality assurance, along with a strong commitment to safety, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Machine Setup and Operation
• Set up, program, and operate CNC Lathes to produce components according to blueprints, job travelers, and production requirements.
• Select appropriate tooling, adjust offsets, and verify part dimensions prior to production runs.
• Troubleshoot machine performance, program errors, or tooling issues to ensure consistent production flow. - Assurance of Quality
• Perform First Article and In-Process Inspections using precision measurement instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
• Verify that all parts meet dimensional, surface finish, and tolerance requirements as defined by engineering drawings.
• Adhere to AlphaTech’s ISO Quality Manual, policies, and procedures, documenting all inspection results as required. - ISO Compliance
• Record process data, inspection results, and material traceability information per ISO QMS standards.
• Support Internal and External Audits by maintaining proper documentation and demonstrating adherence to established procedures.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including Risk Assessments (RAs), Corrective Actions (CAs), and Opportunities for Improvement (OFIs). - Blueprint Reading and Technical Accuracy
• Interpret complex engineering blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T symbols to determine part geometry and machining requirements.
• Ensure machine setups, tool paths, and cutting parameters align with engineering intent and production standards.
• Assist in optimizing setups for repeatability and efficiency. - Collaboration and Support
• Coordinate daily with team members to achieve production and quality targets.
• Provide feedback and technical input to improve manufacturing processes and workflow efficiency.
• Mentor less-experienced operators when appropriate, promoting skill development and team cohesion.
Preferred Qualifications
• Minimum 5 years of CNC machining experience, including setup, operation, and inspection.
• Proficiency with CNC control systems, especially Haas, Okuma, and FANUC.
• Strong understanding of blueprint reading, GD&T, and machining tolerances.
• Experience working within an ISO 9001 Quality Management System environment.
• Proficient in using precision measurement instruments.
• Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
