ASSISTANT PRODUCTION MANAGER
Position Description
Reports to: Music Director and Executive Director
Status: Contract (January–May 2025, with potential renewal after final concert)
Position Summary
The Assistant Production Manager supports the Alpharetta Symphony and the Alpharetta Symphony Youth Orchestra (ASYO) in ensuring the smooth execution of rehearsals and performances. Working closely with the Education and Outreach Director, Personnel and Production Manager, Music Director, and Executive Director, this role is responsible for coordinating backstage operations, managing setup and breakdown logistics, and assisting with transportation of instruments and equipment. The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, and proactive, with a strong sense of professionalism and teamwork.
Primary Responsibilities
Alpharetta Symphony
Coordinate back-of-house operations for dress rehearsals and concerts, including stage setup, equipment organization, and transitions.
Work in collaboration with the Personnel and Production Manager, Music Director, and Executive Director to arrange and implement production logistics.
Assist with loading and unloading instruments, stands, chairs, and production materials as needed.
Ensure concert and dress rehearsal spaces are prepared, safe, and efficiently organized for musicians and staff.
Support the Music Director and other staff with logistical needs as they arise.
Alpharetta Symphony Youth Orchestra (ASYO)
Work onsite for ASYO rehearsals (Sundays Sep-May) from approximately 2:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. (or until all students have departed) on designated rehearsal days.
Set up and break down chairs, stands, and percussion equipment before and after rehearsals.
Maintain a clean and organized rehearsal space.
Work in collaboration with the Education Director to arrange and implement production logistics.
Joint Alpharetta Symphony and ASYO Responsibilities
Rent and drive a U-Haul vehicle (must be over 18 and able to meet rental requirements).
Load, transport, and unload percussion instruments and other production items for all ASYO and Alpharetta Symphony concerts and dress rehearsals. Pickup at Preston Ridge Community Center (PRCC), deliver to designated concert venues (listed below), then reload and return all items to PRCC.
Maintain an accurate inventory of production materials and ensure items are handled and stored properly.
Qualifications and Skills
Prior experience in the performing arts or production assistance, stage management, or event logistics preferred.
Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Comfortable with moderate physical labor, including lifting, loading, and moving equipment.
Must exhibit professionalism, patience, and appropriate conduct when working with or around children.
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
Must be able to rent and operate a U-Haul vehicle.
Must pass a background check (paid for by the Alpharetta Symphony).
Must not be a current performing musician with the Alpharetta Symphony.
Compensation and Commitment
$400 per month (5 month contract)
Contract Period: January through May, with review for renewal after the final concert.
Work Hours: Variable; includes weekday evening rehearsals and weekend performances.
