Job Description Position: Sorting Associate / Processor
The Sorting Associate/Processor helps achieve Alphabet Soup Benefit Thrift's mission by processing donations according to established procedures. This position will work with a team of staff and volunteers to screen all donated goods for sales floor quality and divide donations into the correct departments, item types, sizes, etc.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Unload donations from donor vehicles.
- Assist Driver with donation pick-up and deliveries
- Review the quality of items to ensure only saleable merchandise is marked for the sales floor.
- Follow established procedures to sort items by department, item type, size, and other factors determined by the Store Manager, Store Lead or Operations Coordinator.
- Help maintain an organized, safe, and clean back of the store. This includes a linen room, art room, processing area, and restrooms.
- Assist with transferring and receiving items, including furniture from donation drop-off to stock areas.
Light janitorial duties.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Ability to adhere to PEF’s HR policies, procedures, and safe practices for staff and volunteers.
MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to safely lift 50 lbs, stand for long periods of time, bend, stoop, reach, and walk unassisted.
- At times, employee will be working outside to support the intake of donations.
- Visually sort items according to department, type, size, and color.
- Past warehouse or retail experience is a plus.
- Ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural environment with a team made of staff and volunteers.
- Excellent customer service.
- Proficient in English (oral, written, and interpersonal communication) is required.
- A willingness to cross-train on other functions of the store team is a plus.
- Must be willing to work a flexible schedule that may include weekends
COMPENSATION:
This is a part-time or full-time (20 -40 hours per week) position. Hourly wage is $17.97 per hour. 5 days paid sick leave. PEF does not currently offer medical coverage.
