Job Summary
We are seeking a seasoned professional and entrepreneur to join our team as a Data Architect & Modeler with experience with agentic system design and development. This position is entrepreneurial and does not include salary to start and is compensated with stock options only to start. There is no salary immediately. This role is at the heart of our data strategy, responsible for both the high-level design of our data infrastructure and the meticulous, hands-on creation of data models. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in translating complex business requirements into robust data models and architecture, ensuring our data systems are scalable, efficient, and aligned with our organizational goals. You will be the key driver in defining how our data is structured, stored, and utilized across the enterprise.
Key Responsibilities
- Data Architecture Strategy: Define and lead the enterprise data architecture strategy, including the design of data warehouses, data lakes, and streaming platforms. Create the architectural blueprints for how data flows across the organization, from source to end-user.
- Agentic model design and development
- Data Modeling (Conceptual, Logical, and Physical): Be the primary owner of our data models. This includes:
- Creating logical models to define data entities, attributes, and relationships without technical constraints.
- Designing physical models for specific databases, including schema, tables, views, indexes, and storage.
- Data Pipeline Development: Work closely with data engineers to design and oversee the implementation of ETL/ELT pipelines, ensuring they conform to the defined data models and architecture.
- Database Design and Optimization: Design and optimize database schemas for both OLTP (Online Transaction Processing) and OLAP (Online Analytical Processing) systems. Tune query performance and manage database structures to ensure efficiency and reliability.
- Technology Selection & Evaluation: Evaluate and recommend data management technologies, platforms, and modeling tools (e.g., ER/Studio, PowerDesigner) to support our data strategy.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as a technical subject matter expert, collaborating with business stakeholders, data scientists, and engineers to gather requirements and translate them into a coherent and functional data strategy.
- Mentorship: Provide guidance and mentorship to other data professionals on data modeling techniques and architectural principles.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 5 years of experience in data management, with a strong focus on data architecture and hands-on data modeling.
- Demonstrated expertise in creating and managing conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
- Deep knowledge of various data modeling techniques, including dimensional modeling (Kimball), data vault, and 3NF normalization.
- Strong proficiency in SQL and experience with a variety of database systems (e.g., Postgres)
- Proven experience with data warehouses and data lakes on a major cloud platform (AWS, or GCP).
- Familiarity with data governance principles and tools for data catalogs and metadata management.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex data concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in data management or architecture
- Hands-on experience with data modeling tools
- Experience in a lead or principal role, with a track record of mentoring others.
- Knowledge of agentic systems.
