What are the responsibilities and job description for the Reporter/Update Anchor KXL-FM News position at Alpha media?
Alpha Media – Portland, OR is seeking a talented professional full-time afternoon/early evening Reporter/Update Anchor with a great attitude and exceptional work ethic for the FM news team of KXL 101.1. The ideal candidate is a seasoned reporter with at least three years of experience working in a newsroom of a medium to major market (Anchor experience a plus). The successful candidate will be the primary news reporter and anchor in the afternoons/early evenings. The candidate will be the backup traffic anchor and be able to naturally resonate with the audience.
Headquartered in Portland, Oregon, Alpha Media owns or operates over 200 live broadcast radio stations and digital properties covering all formats serving 44 markets across the United States. In addition to our over-the-air broadcasts, Alpha audio products can be heard across multiple platforms, including all major smart devices. Strong relationships with our listeners and clients in the communities where we live and work keep Alpha Media true to its local-first heritage.
Responsibilities for this position may include the following:
- Write and report the news.
- Operate on-air console and audio controls.
- Collaborate with show producers and News Director on the news of the day and prioritize coverage.
- Monitor all news coverage on local television affiliates, local newspapers, and local radio competitors.
- Available to be on-call after midnight for breaking news stories.
- Provide photos and video while covering news stories when applicable.
- Post stories to station websites and social media sites.
- Create video/audio content.
Requirements of this position may include the following:
- A minimum of three years of experience working in the newsroom of a medium to major market.
- A minimum of two years of experience in news gathering, writing, and on-air anchor duties.
- Must be available to work on an as-needed basis and be available for breaking news.
- Knowledge of all applicable FCC rules and regulations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in the use of audio editing software and remote broadcast equipment.
- Experience operating radio automation systems.
- Ability to interact with the listening audience.
- Ability to interact with management and staff at all levels.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and adhere to strict deadlines.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- This position requires a fully insured personal vehicle and a valid driver’s license.
