Duties
- Accurately receive, label, and document incoming tissue specimens ensuring proper identification and chain-of-custody.
- Prepare specimens for gross examination by performing initial dissections, measurements, and tissue processing following established protocols.
- Maintain detailed records of specimen accessioning, processing steps, and storage locations to ensure traceability.
- Assist pathologists during grossing procedures by providing necessary tools and ensuring a sterile environment using aseptic techniques.
- Follow laboratory safety procedures diligently, including proper handling of biohazardous materials and maintaining a clean workspace.
- Collaborate with research teams to process specimens for experimental purposes, adhering to specific research protocols.
- Support quality control initiatives by verifying specimen integrity and documenting any discrepancies or issues encountered during processing.
Experience
- Prior clinical laboratory experience or research laboratory experience is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of laboratory procedures including specimen collection, processing, and storage techniques.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pathology concepts relevant to tissue handling.
- Experience with phlebotomy or patient care activities such as obtaining vital signs is a plus.
- Understanding of laboratory techniques such as aseptic technique and proper specimen preservation methods.
- Hospital or healthcare facility experience can enhance your ability to navigate clinical environments effectively.
