Position Summary
The House Director serves as the on-site professional responsible for the daily operation of the chapter house.
Working closely with undergraduate officers, alumni advisors, chapter staff, and the House Board Corporation, the House Director helps ensure that the facility operates safely, efficiently, and in accordance with university, fraternity, and House Corporation policies.
The House Director reports directly to the President of the House Board Corporation.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist the undergraduate Executive Board in maintaining a safe, organized, fiscally responsible, and well-managed chapter house.
- Work closely with the Head Chef and undergraduate Kitchen Manager to ensure efficient kitchen and dining operations.
- Monitor compliance with House Corporation policies and report concerns to the HBC President.
- Coordinate with outside vendors, contractors, and service providers.
- Oversee routine maintenance and repairs in cooperation with undergraduate House Managers.
- Approve completed contractor work and maintain records of services performed.
- Monitor inventory and ensure adequate cleaning and operational supplies are maintained.
- Authorize routine repairs up to $300 and coordinate estimates for larger projects requiring HBC approval.
- Immediately report significant property damage or insurance-related incidents.
- Communicate maintenance concerns, operational issues, or emerging trends affecting the chapter.
- Maintain regular communication with the Chapter President, Treasurer, House Managers, and Social Chairman.
- Serve as host during alumni, parent, and chapter events held at the house.
- Coordinate member move-in and move-out procedures, including room inspections and documentation.
- Conduct periodic inspections of common areas and resident rooms to ensure compliance with chapter policies.
- Attend University House Director meetings and other relevant campus meetings involving fraternity housing.
- Manage house access systems, including key programming, laundry card administration, and replacement of lost credentials.
- Recommend furnishings or improvements that enhance the comfort and appearance of the chapter house.
Qualifications
- Minimum three years of experience as a House Director or in comparable residential management.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution abilities.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with students, parents, alumni, advisors, and vendors.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
- Basic bookkeeping knowledge (professional bookkeeping support is provided).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PDF scanning, and email.
- Positive, solution-oriented approach to problem solving.
- Ability to work effectively with college-aged men while maintaining professionalism, patience, consistency, and a sense of humor.
- Ability to climb multiple flights of stairs and lift up to 25 pounds.
- Valid driver's license.
- Successful completion of a criminal background check.

This is a full-time, salaried, live-in position.

The House Director is expected to reside in the chapter house throughout the academic year. Overnight presence is required except when alternate adult supervision has been approved by the House Board Corporation. The House Director typically remains on campus one day after university breaks begin and returns one day prior to students' return.
