Alpena Public Schools is seeking an Accounting/Finance Supervisor. This is a 12 month position.


Position Title: Accounting/Finance Supervisor

SUMMARY: Supervises accounting staff engaged in processing District financial accounting functions including: Posting to the general ledger, accounting for revenues, providing for proper internal accounting procedures and controls and accounting for federal programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
  • Provides for proper internal control and accounting procedures.
  • Prepares external reports to federal, state and regional governmental entities.
  • Assists the annual audit to ensure a timely review of all documents and prepares the
annual financial report.
  • Monitors and/or oversees the accounting of various District funds such as student activities, athletics, food services, etc.
  • Prepares and analyzes financial information for administrative level decision-making.
  • Assists in managing District budget, monitoring line items and reporting on significant variances.
  • Oversees District cash flow; analyzing revenues and expenditures and recommends investment alternatives.
  • Performs security officer functions for the New World ERP accounting software, as well as trouble shooting problems arising with the system.
  • Manages user access and security clearance to New World ERP.
  • Accounts Receivable management: Oversees the incoming revenue for the district.
  • Accounts Payable management: Oversees the accounts payable process.
  • Local Grants and Donations Administration: Acts as the financial steward for the community by managing local grants and donations and tracking the budgets for these types of accounts.
  • Assists with all payroll related functions.
  • Oversee bus trip and other miscellaneous billings.
  • Acts as backup to all other positions in the business office during times of absence, excess load or critical timelines.
  • Maintains confidentiality of records.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Directly supervises employees in accounting. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include assisting the Associate Superintendent with interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university; and three (3) years experience working as a supervisor in an accounting capacity. School accounting and reporting experience is desirable. Experience with Budget production and control. Knowledge of computers.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Possess or be eligible to earn the Business Office Manager certification through MSBO.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Requires logical thinking process.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Proficiency with computer applications. Office supervisory experience required. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms and occasionally required to lift boxes that weigh in excess of 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision. Some travel abilities are required.

Salary : $46,565 - $67,157
