Response to Intervention (RTI) Specialist
Department: General Education
Reports To: Director of Instruction
Summary: Under the direction of the AMA ESD, the RTI Specialist will provide literacy interventions to identified students in local schools.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Student Intervention and Instruction
- Provide research-based literacy interventions to targeted K–3 students without an IEP. Students in grades 4-5 will be supported on an as-needed basis.
- Deliver Tier 2 services by pushing into the classroom to support Tier 1 instruction.
- Work with the STARS coach and school stakeholders to identify students for each intervention cycle.
- Follow program research guidelines, including recommended group size.
- Implement designated interventions with fidelity.
Assessment and Progress Monitoring
- Administer initial, ongoing, and comprehensive reading assessments.
- Progress monitor students throughout the cycle using designated assessments.
- Analyze student data at the end of each cycle to determine response to intervention and next steps (continue, change, or exit intervention).
- Enter and maintain student data in the designated data system.
Collaboration and Communication
- Communicate regularly with your supervisor, the STARS Coach, and school stakeholders such as teachers and principals.
- Attend professional development as directed by AMA ESD.
Professional Expectations
- Maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.
- Remain free from alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substances in the workplace.

While performing the duties of this job, the RTI Specialist must be able to do the following:
- Acute vision required or correction, including close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- May be required to grasp, push, reach, or stoop/kneel/crouch.
- May occasionally be required to lift up to 20 pounds, rarely up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to have repetitive wrist/hand/finger movements to work on the computer and/or related office equipment.
Qualifications:
- Associate's Degree or pass a basic skills test.
- Must have demonstrated good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Possess and maintain a valid MI State Driver's License
- Ability to pass a criminal history check
- Basic computer skills
