The Family-Based Immigration Attorney is responsible for representing clients in family-based immigration matters, including VAWA and non-VAWA petitions, while providing client-centered legal advocacy. This role involves developing case strategies, drafting and filing documentation, and appearing before USCIS in multiple jurisdictions. The attorney ensures compassionate, thorough, and effective representation, maintaining strong client relationships aligned with the firm’s commitment to immigrant rights. The position also requires flexibility for remote collaboration, occasional travel, and a dedication to continuous professional growth within a supportive and mission-driven legal team.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
Client Advocacy and Representation
- Develop creative legal strategies and solutions to secure positive outcomes for clients, displaying resilience and dedication in each case.
- Represent clients in family-based immigration matters, including Adjustment of Status, Consular Processing, I-130, VAWA, and I-601A waivers.
- Prepare clients for USCIS interviews as necessary.
- Communicate with clients regularly and compassionately to manage expectations and provide legal guidance.
- Uphold high ethical standards and client confidentiality at all times.
Case Preparation and Management
- Prepare and submit legal documents, including, but not limited to, applications for green cards, work permits, and travel permits
- Collaborate with legal assistants and fellow attorneys for efficient case management.
- Stay current on changes in immigration law, particularly family-based provisions.
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
- Active bar license in good standing (state jurisdiction open, Texas preferred).
- Strong legal writing, research, and advocacy skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
- Willingness to travel occasionally for hearings or firm-related needs.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2 years of experience in immigration law, with a focus on family-based petitions and VAWA,
- Bilingual English and Spanish are strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with high-volume caseload environments.
- Ability to handle emotionally sensitive cases with empathy and discretion.
Work Environment and Work Schedule
- Full-time, exempt. Standard schedule with occasional overtime
- Hybrid Role depending on the applicant’s location
- Combination of in-person meetings and remote work. Occasional travel is required for interviews. Community/office, events, and conferences.
