Interior Designer – Renovation Selections (Contract, 1099)

We’re a boutique interior design studio based in the heart of Sonoma, CA, specializing in elevated residential renovations and beautiful yet functional interiors. We are looking for a detail-driven, organized, and creatively curious Interior Designer (1099 contractor) to support our team with renovation selections and project execution.
This role is ideal for a designer who thrives in a collaborative environment, enjoys the technical creative balance of renovation work, and is looking for flexible hours within a highly supportive, design-forward team.
Responsibilities
- Assist lead designer with renovation selections, including:
- Tile, plumbing, lighting, hardware, countertops, cabinetry finishes, paint colors, flooring, fabrics, and specialty materials
- Ordering samples and maintaining finish libraries
- Prepare design boards, specification sheets, and client-facing presentation materials
- Produce accurate elevations and support design development using Chief Architect, CAD, or similar programs
- Have the ability to create renderings to help communicate design direction
- Support fieldwork including jobsite walk-throughs, measurements, and contractor coordination
- Communicate with vendors for pricing, availability, and lead times
- Maintain organized digital files, Dropbox folders, and spec documents
- Participate in weekly team meetings (virtual in-office)
- Assist with styling days, photoshoots, and install logistics as needed
- Contribute to a small-but-mighty team, bringing a collaborative spirit, positive energy, and proactive engagement
Requirements
- 1–3 years experience in interior design, residential renovations, or related field
- Skilled in Chief Architect, CAD, SketchUp or similar design software (must be able to produce elevations; renderings a plus)
- Strong understanding of materials, finish schedules, and construction terminology
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset
- Ability to work independently with strong follow-through
- Highly organized, proactive, and detail-oriented
- Reliable transportation for site visits and vendor appointments
Work Structure
- 1099 contractor role
- 30–35 hours per week
- Flexible hours with the ability to work from home
- 2 in-office days per week (Sonoma, CA)
- Occasional local travel required for site visits, sourcing, and project check-ins
