Hours
Rotating Shifts, Rotating Weekends and Holidays
Shifts:
- Day Shift: 5:30am-2:00pm, 6:00am-2:30pm, 7:00am-3:30pm, 9:00am-5:30pm
- Evening Shift: 2:00pm to 10:30pm
- Overnight Shift: 10:30pm to 7:00am
Every Third Weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) and Every Third Holiday: Overnight Shift
Position Objective
The Phlebotomist is responsible for accurately collecting specimens for medical provider ordered lab tests.
Essential Responsibilities
Interpret and Process Lab Orders
- Interpret, verify, and carry out medical provider ordered lab tests
- Interpret, reference, and apply laboratory specimen requirements
Specimen Collection
- Obtain or collect body fluids, tissues, or other substances to aid the laboratory in determining normal and abnormal findings
- Obtain nasopharyngeal or nasal substances
- Proficient in capillary, venous, and arterial blood collection
Patient Interaction
- Foster an atmosphere of trust and confidence with patients while explaining and performing procedures
- Provide instructions clearly and accurately for patient collected specimens
- Maintain an environment of privacy, safety , and integrity for all patients, at all times
Other Responsibilities
- Perform Urine Drug Screen collections and Breath Alcohol Testing
- Perform Point of Care testing as trained by facility
- Perform all other related duties as assigned in a professional and responsive manner
- Demonstrate the ability to use relevant equipment
- Support, understand, and promote Alomere Health’s mission, vision, values, policies and procedures
- Ability to meet the work schedule requirements with flexibility dependent upon the needs of the department

Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent degree
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience working in a health care facility
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong knowledge in proper specimen collection; including specimen requirements, integrity of specimen, isolation procedures, timed blood draws, and aseptic technique
- Strong understanding of the importance of patient identification and correct specimen labeling
- Ability to have regular and anticipated attendance
- Strong attention to detail and data entry skills
- Ability to positively interact with others and provide exceptional customer service
- Ability to use required systems: Laboratory Information System and Electronic Medical Record
- Mature judgement and ability to handle sensitive situations and confidential information with professionalism
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in order to communicate with patients and employees on a daily basis
