Role Overview:
The Revenue Cycle Manager (RCM) plays a critical leadership role in overseeing end-to-end revenue cycle operations for assigned clients within a third-party billing environment. This role serves as the primary liaison between clients and internal RCM operations—both onshore and offshore—ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely revenue performance.
The RCM Manager is responsible for optimizing revenue workflows, improving financial outcomes, and driving continuous process improvements. By building strong, trusted relationships with clients and internal stakeholders, this individual helps maximize collections, reduce denials, and improve key performance indicators (KPIs) such as days in A/R, net collection rate, and clean claims rate—ultimately driving client satisfaction and retention.
Core Responsibilities:
Revenue Cycle Operations & Client Management (50%)
- Serve as the primary point of contact for escalated client communications and issue resolution related to RCM services
- Manage a portfolio of assigned clients, ensuring service delivery aligns with SLAs and client expectations
- Lead onboarding of new RCM clients, including workflow setup, training, and transition support
- Conduct software and billing audits to ensure accuracy, compliance, and adherence to best practices
- Train, mentor, and support RCM team members across onshore and offshore operations; provide guidance on day-to-day questions and complex cases
- Analyze revenue cycle performance and identify opportunities to improve collections, reduce denials, and optimize workflows
- Monitor denial trends, underpayments, and claim rejections; partner with internal teams to implement corrective actions
- Assist in defining, tracking, and improving KPIs in collaboration with clients and RCM leadership
- Lead or support optimization initiatives across billing, coding, collections, and payment posting
- Create, maintain, and deliver training documentation and standard operating procedures
- Partner closely with offshore teams to ensure timely and accurate follow-up on all payer aging accounts
Client Engagement & Strategic Support (30%)
- Facilitate regular client meetings, including Monthly Business Reviews (MBRs), to review financial and operational performance
- Prepare and present performance dashboards, insights, and strategic recommendations
- Build strong relationships with client stakeholders and proactively address evolving business needs
- Translate client goals into actionable RCM strategies and operational improvements
- Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, coaching, and training with direct reports to support individual and departmental performance goals
Cross-Functional Collaboration (10%)
- Partner with Operations, Implementation, Product, and other internal teams to resolve issues, escalate concerns, and support client initiatives
- Act as a client advocate internally, ensuring alignment between client objectives and organizational execution
Documentation & Reporting (10%)
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation of client interactions, action items, and resolutions within CRM systems
- Prepare and deliver standard and custom financial and operational reports for clients and internal leadership
- Support month-end billing and invoicing processes, including review and approval of RCM service invoices
Required Skills & Attributes
- Deep knowledge of healthcare revenue cycle management across all phases: eligibility, charge capture, coding, billing, payment posting, and collections
- Strong client-facing communication skills, both written and verbal
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with the ability to interpret financial and operational data
- Proven ability to manage multiple client relationships and priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Experience with CRM systems and medical billing platforms such as Aloha, CentralReach, Rethink, Change Healthcare, Office Ally, Availity, or similar
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
- 10 years of experience in Revenue Cycle Management (required)
- 6 years in client-facing roles such as account management, client services, or consulting
- Experience working with physician groups, billing companies, or healthcare systems strongly preferred
- Prior experience managing or collaborating with offshore billing teams highly desirable
