What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director New Product Commercialization position at Alnylam Pharmaceuticals?
Overview
Alnylam is expanding its Pipeline Commercialization capability to match the ambition and complexity of one of the most productive development pipelines in the company's history. The Director, New Pipeline Commercialization will be a member of the Value & Pipeline Commercialization (VPC) team, serving as a key commercial contributor across multiple development-stage assets with a primary focus on Alnylam's late stage pipeline assets such as Zilebesiran and ALN-6400.
This individual will report to the VP, Zilebesiran Commercialization Lead and will operate as a hands-on strategic contributor — owning defined commercial workstreams, leading external engagements with customers and alliance partners, and supporting the commercial development of multiple pipeline assets simultaneously. The ideal candidate thrives at the intersection of science and strategy, brings deep new product planning experience, and is energized by the opportunity to shape development decisions years before launch.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial Strategy & Asset Support
- Serve as a pivotal member of the commercial team for Alnylam's Zilebesiran & ALN-6400 programs, leading defined workstreams within the go-to-market framework, stage-gate roadmap, and positioning
- Develop commercial strategy for additional pipeline assets across the VPC portfolio — driving market assessments, target product profile development, patient population analysis, and early commercialization plans
- Develop and maintain a well-supported commercial point of view on each assigned asset, including competitive positioning hypotheses, unmet need framing, and launch assumptions
- Build the analytical foundation and commercial narrative that enables senior leadership to make high-quality decisions in governance and development board forums
- Contribute to forecast assumption development and financial modeling for assigned assets
Integrated Evidence & Market Insights
- Lead defined workstreams within the Integrated Evidence Plan, developing the commercial rationale for specific evidence generation initiatives — articulating what each study enables commercially and how it connects to positioning and differentiation at launch
- Partner with Medical Affairs to ensure commercial perspective is reflected in evidence generation planning, publications strategy, and scientific communications
- Design and execute, in collaboration with Market research team, primary market research programs, translating business questions into clear research objectives and converting findings into strategic recommendations
- Synthesize competitive intelligence, secondary data, and treatment landscape dynamics into actionable insights that inform both asset-level and portfolio-level decisions
VPC Team & Organizational Capability
- Play an active role in building the VPC team's ways of working — contributing to frameworks, tools, and processes that improve how the team operates across multiple assets simultaneously
- Support the development of commercial best practices for pipeline-stage assets, including approaches to evidence planning, stage-gate design, and cross-functional influence in development organizations
External Engagement
- In partnership with medical, lead external engagement with KOLs, clinical experts, and advisory boards — independently representing Alnylam's commercial perspective in scientific and strategic settings, and translating expert input into commercial inssight
- Support alliance partner workstreams by preparing commercial materials, analyses, and strategic inputs that enable productive joint planning and evidence generation discussions
- Engage with patient communities and advocacy organizations to ensure the patient perspective is embedded in commercial and evidence planning
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required; MBA or advanced degree strongly preferred
- 8 years of experience in pharmaceutical/biotech/healthcare consulting industry with experiences in new product planning, pipeline commercialization, launch strategy, and/or brand strategy
- Demonstrated ability to lead commercial workstreams independently and represent the commercial perspective credibly with external scientific and clinical experts
- Experience in or exposure to alliance or co-development environments preferred
- Strong command of market research design, competitive intelligence synthesis, and evidence-to-strategy translation
- Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without direct authority, including medical, clinical, regulatory, and access partners
- Strong analytical skills including the ability to develop and pressure-test forecast assumptions
- Clear and compelling communicator — able to synthesize complex information into concise commercial narratives and prepare senior leaders for high-stakes forums
- Comfortable operating on a long development horizon — able to think ambitiously, set early hypotheses, and adapt as evidence evolves
