Position Overview
We are seeking a Clinical Design Engineer who will work at the intersection of clinical need, biomedical engineering, and implant design. This role focuses on transforming patient-specific clinical and anatomical data into custom implant and reconstruction solutions. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, collaborative, and comfortable working directly with surgeons, manufacturing partners, and regulatory/documentation workflows.
Key Responsibilities
· Collaborate with orthopedic surgeons, prosthetists, and clinical partners to define design requirements.
· Process and interpret imaging data to generate patient-specific 3D anatomical models.
· Develop and iterate implant and fixation designs using CAD and computational modeling tools.
· Apply principles of biomechanics, material selection, and osseointegration surface optimization.
· Prepare engineering documentation compliant with ISO 13485 and FDA standards.
· Coordinate with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are optimized for additive and subtractive fabrication.
· Support testing, validation, and clinical feedback loops to improve design workflows.
· Participate in R&D exploring new surface architectures and implant interface technologies.
Required Qualifications
· Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field with 5 years of experience, or Master’s Degree with 3 years of experience in medical device or implant design.
· Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling (SolidWorks, 3Matic, nTopology, etc.).
· Experience working with DICOM imaging and segmentation software (Mimics, 3D Slicer, etc.).
· Strong understanding of biomechanics and anatomic variation.
· Effective communication skills with clinical and technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience with additive manufacturing of medical implants.
· Knowledge of osseointegration principles and implant surface technologies.
· Familiarity with regulated quality systems (ISO 13485, FDA 21 CFR 820).
