Ally and Your Career

Ally Financial only succeeds when its people do - and that’s more than some cliché people put on job postings. We love this stuff! We see our people as, well, people - with interests, families, friends, dreams, and causes that are all important to them. Our focus is on the health and safety of our teammates as well as work-life balance and diversity and inclusion. From generous benefits to a variety of employee resource groups, we strive to build paths that encourage employees to stretch themselves professionally. We want to help you grow, develop, and learn new things. You’re constantly evolving, so shouldn’t your opportunities be, too?

Work Schedule: Ally designates roles as (1) fully on-site, (2) hybrid, or (3) fully remote. Hybrid roles are generally expected to be in the office a certain number of days per week as indicated by your manager. Your hiring manager will discuss this role's specific work requirements with you during the hiring process. All work requirements are subject to change at any time based on leader discretion and/or business need.

The Opportunity

This position offers an exciting and challenging opportunity to apply modeling, analytics and business intelligence skills to an insurance business that is a subsidiary of a large financial institution. The analyst owns the development and refinement of internal reporting and visualization of Ally Insurance’s customer profitability models owned by the Risk team. The analyst will identify needs from stakeholders across various business units, understand existing data and work with internal partners to close data gaps, and use the team’s model outputs to develop reporting that supports the Risk team’s underwriting monitoring function. In addition to serving as a subject matter expert to model and reporting consumers, the analyst will develop and provide the business and senior leadership with portfolio trends and insights.

The Work Itself

  • Lead the planning, building and enhancing profitability and underwriting risk reporting through collaboration with internal matrix partners (product pricing, finance, and other data/analytics functions)
  • Present regularly to stakeholders and senior leadership to highlight analyses, model and product/portfolio trends and insights, and impact analyses on modeling and reporting enhancements and version changes
  • Use models to design and perform ad hoc reporting or analyses on profitability trends, Key Risk Indicators, and opportunities; also, to own other ad hoc projects as needed
  • Support the governance and internal audits of the team’s models and reporting tools by successfully developing and maintaining sound control processes in reporting tools

The Qualifications We’re Looking For

  • 2 years of experience in analytics, data analysis, modeling, forecasting or a similar role focused on data/statistical analysis preferred
  • Proficiency in data analysis design tools and analytics languages such as SQL, Python, or R; experience with business intelligence reporting and visualization tools such as PowerBI, Tableau (or similar) is highly preferred
  • Progress toward an advanced degree (such as MS in data science/analytics) or actuarial exam progress is preferred
  • Ability to form collaborative working relationships with partners across job functions and experience levels
  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills, should be a critical thinker, with strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Prior experience with cross-functional and/or multifaceted projects is preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to communicate ideas and insights to non-technical audiences, including senior leaders

Minimum Qualifications
