What are the responsibilities and job description for the Full Time Crisis Technician position at Allwell Behavioral Health Services?
POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for crisis counseling and teaching daily living skills and psychosocial skills with program clients. Will assist with admissions, treatment plans, group services, discharge planning and complete discharge summaries for clients when they are leaving the program. Provides coverage for Crisis Hotline Services.
RESPONSIBILITIES/STANDARDS
1. Provides a supportive and empathic environment for successful resolution of clients’ crisis through crisis intervention counseling and education with program clients.
a. Puts client needs first, responds in a timely fashion to client needs.
b. Provides supportive and crisis counseling to clients, families, and significant others.
c. Assists clients in preparation of meals and areas of daily living skills.
d. Assists clients in implementing individualized treatment plan goals.
e. Educates clients on their mental illness and/or situation and teaches effective ways to maintain in the community.
f. Assists in self-administration of medications per CSU Medical Guidelines policy established by physician orders and according to professional and Allwell guidelines.
g. Coordinate and facilitate client participation in hobbies and leisure activities as scheduled.
h. Facilitate house meetings with program clients according to CARF Standards and Allwell policy.
i. Facilitate group activities and discussion as assigned.
j. Keep Director of Crisis Services/CSU Coordinator updated on clinical/behavioral issues that may need additional intervention.
2. Complete admission and discharge planning with residents.
a. Completes assigned items on admission checklist thoroughly.
b. Engage client in the therapeutic process.
c. Complete intake assessment.
d. Develop individualized treatment plans
e. Assess readiness for discharge and the level of care needed by reviewing the case with the Director of Crisis Services/CSU Coordinator during staffing.
f. Make appropriate referrals for internal and external programs.
g. Help client make aftercare appointments when appropriate.
h. Complete discharge checklist thoroughly.
i. Assure completion of Consumer Satisfaction Survey at discharge.
3. Complete all necessary documentation.
a. Complete CSU Individual Progress Note and/or CSU Group Progress Note depending on services provided for that shift.
b. Complete daily activity log by end of shift.
c. Complete incident reports by end of shift and ensure that it flows through appropriate channels.
4. Arranges transportation for clients through family or Case Management services. Provides transportation when staffing allows and as needed or as directed by Director or CSU Coordinator.
5. Provides coverage for hotline services.
a. Provides telephone assessments and crisis management services to callers.
b. Makes a decision on when to involve Emergency Medical Personnel (i.e. police, sheriff, ambulance, Allwell Back-up staff.
c. Develops plan with caller to manage crisis situation.
d. Keeps Director/Coordinator informed of potential risk situations and contacts other Allwell professionals as indicated by assessment.
e. Completes information and referral form, hang-up and wrong number sheet, crisis hotline call report sheet, and repeat caller sheet with clinical information as contained in call.
6. Communicates effectively with CSU staff, internal Allwell programs and other external agencies.
a. Informs other team members of client treatment issues and discharge planning in a timely fashion.
b. Participates in group supervision, internal staff meetings, in-services, and external workshops for professional growth and development.
7. Maintain interior and exterior of facility
a. Assures clients rooms are clean and prepared for incoming clients.
b. Assures entrance to Crisis Center is clean and presentable to incoming clients, visitors and community.
c. Keep office area clean and free of clutter
d. Maintains kitchen and bathrooms for sanitary purposed
e. Takes out garbage as needed
f. Completes cleaning checklist and cleans assigned area in timely manner as assigned by supervisor.
8. Specific tasks may be assigned to each Tech II. The one you are assigned will be highlighted here.
a. Maintaining records of TB tests, CPR and trainings
b. Developing the monthly schedule and having it approved by Director
c. Grocery shopping, stocking the kitchen, planning and preparing meals.
d. Complete and submit purchase orders for supplies needed for the facility.
9. Will have access to and use of, as well as may create Protected Health Information (PHI) of clients through verbal, written and electronic communications, as recorded and contained in Allwell’s clinical records and computer system that the employee and his/her supervisor have identified on attached document entitled: “Employee Access & Use of Minimum Necessary Client Protected Health Information” as the minimum necessary PHI for the employee to perform his/her job responsibilities.
a. Will use and protect such identified client PHI by maintaining and respecting client privacy and confidentiality in conformance to federal and state patient privacy laws and regulations and Allwell client confidentiality policies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A TECHNICAL: Must possess a bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or related field. Demonstrates leadership and teaching abilities. Must have current Ohio Driver’s License, auto liability insurance. Skills to be a self-starter, initiates conversation with residents. Possess or obtain CPR, First Aid and Crisis Intervention Training.
B. ANALYTICAL: Must have good problem solving, knowledge of crisis intervention techniques, and ability to assess the need for more intense treatment. Must be able to work as a team member/leader. Exercise ability to access, implement and evaluate treatment for client’s solution to problems.
C. CONTROL: Participates in decisions regarding clients’ best interest. Assures clients have access to food, clothes, and resources for successful resolution of crisis. Provides supportive and empathic environment for program clients.
