Job Summary
The Activity Assistant is responsible for assisting in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of recreational, social, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual programs for memory care residents. This position supports residents’ overall well-being by providing meaningful activities that align with each resident’s individual assessment and care plan. The Activity Assistant works under the direction of supervisors to ensure programs are engaging, safe, and supportive of residents’ physical, social, and emotional needs.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating activity programs for memory care residents.
Observe and document resident participation, mood, behavior, and response to activities.
Maintain accurate and descriptive activity progress notes in resident charts.
Prepare activity areas before programs and assist with cleanup afterward.
Follow resident care plans when providing daily activities.
Promote residents’ physical, social, and mental well-being through structured and individualized activities.
Build positive working relationships with other departments to ensure activities run smoothly.
Purchase supplies, clothing, and personal items for residents as needed.
Maintain confidentiality of all resident information and follow facility compliance guidelines.
Provide one-on-one engagement with residents, including visits, assisting with crafts or projects, and running small errands.
Qualifications
Experience in a Long-Term Care Activities Department preferred.
Patience, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude when working with elderly residents, including those with cognitive impairments.
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Physical Requirements
Ability to move throughout the facility during the workday.
Ability to manage emotional and mental demands of working with elderly and memory care residents.
Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 25 pounds and move items up to 50 feet.
Ability to assist residents during emergency evacuations if necessary.
Ability to work with individuals who may be ill, disabled, or emotionally distressed.
