Driver Class C- Levels 2-4: Non-Exempt, Full-Time position
This role is open to candidates ranging from our level 2 to level 4 of Driver Class C experience. This position is responsible for driving all Class C company vehicles as assigned. Variety of duties & working situations that involve frequent changes of tasks using different techniques, procedures, or degrees of attentiveness without loss of efficiency or composure. Employee must maintain a clean driving record as deemed acceptable by our insurance company and/or Company’s Policy. This includes meeting the requirements of a criminal background check, driving record, physical, drug screen, and any all other information as required by state and federal regulations. Higher level employees will be responsible for supervising crew, loading, packing, and inventorying shipments and warehouse as assigned.
Basic Job Duties:
· Safely drive all company Class C vehicles (owned or rented) as assigned
· Report to work promptly at the dispatched time
· Perform daily pre-trip and post trip inspection of assigned vehicle
· Complete required log in a timely manor
· Remove all trash and debris from the cab and van at the end of each day
· Packing - level 2 (boxes/pallets/crates/vaults with the use of packing materials) as required
· Helper - level 2 duties as required
· Maintain a clear, open, and consistent line of communication with dispatch / operations dept.
· Supervise and direct crew in order to efficiently complete job assigned. This includes coordinating who will inventory, pack, and load, and when it will be done
· Calculate charges and collect payment from shipper unless otherwise noted on paperwork or by supervisor
· Correctly complete all paperwork for designated job. This includes, but is not limited to Driver’s ticket, 1840, DD619, DD619-1, Bill of Lading; pack count sheets, inventories, customer service sheets, and additional forms.
· Properly use all moving equipment, including dollies, four-wheelers, lift-gates, piano boards, walk-boards, etc.
· Report any and all weighing anomalies per federal or state laws, and company policies.
· Report any and all accidents and or safety violations to your supervisor immediately
· Other reasonable duties as directed by supervisor
More Experienced Level Job Duties:
· Supervise and direct the crew in order to efficiently complete the job assigned. This includes coordinating who will inventory, pack, and load, and when it will be done
· Packing - level 3 & 4 (boxes/pallets/crates/vaults with the use of packing materials) as required
· Helper - level 3 & 4 duties as required
· Properly use all moving equipment, including dollies, four-wheelers, lift-gates, piano boards, walk-boards, etc.
· Follow all safety procedures and policies set forth by Allstate Van & Storage, Inc.
· Report all violations of such procedures and policies to the supervisor
· Provide and maintain superior customer service
· Work with dispatch daily, in person or by phone as required by the Operations / General Manager to check work schedule unless otherwise directed by supervisor.
· Special assignment involving a pick-up/delivery/ other location, only if employee has applicable license required for the assignment.
· Train Driver Class C level 1-3, Helper level 1-4, and Packer level 1-4
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS/ REQUIREMENTS/ SKILLS/ KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
· Requires a valid Class C license with clean driving record
· Should have a full understanding and knowledge of practicing proper weighing procedures
Has experience as a helper, and packer
Has experience in a distribution warehouse
· Works well in a team environment and have interpersonal relationships skills
· Knowledge of applicable safety regulations
· Self-motivated
· Maintain a high level of alertness
· Make judgments and decisions that involves solving problems, making evaluations, or reaching conclusions based on subjective or objective criteria, such as the five senses, knowledge, past experiences, or factual data.
· Driving ability including starting, stopping and controlling the actions of machines or equipment for which a course must be steered, or which must be guided, to control the movement of things or people
· Ability to speak and write in English, must be at the minimal equivalent to high school level
· Ability to comprehend and implement verbal instructions efficiently
· Ability to perform mathematical calculations at the minimal equivalent to high school level
· Ability to effectively communicate with fellow employees and/or customers
· Comprehensive understanding of moving and storage operations including being proficient at packing and loading
· Comprehensive understanding of accident and incident reporting
· Comprehensive understanding of Smith System driving program
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
These physical activities are essential to the job occasionally to frequently. Standing, walking, sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing, climbing, balancing, stooping/bending, reaching, handling and feeling.
· Must be able to lift and carry 80-100 lbs.
· Required to stand and walk for long periods of time
· Required to work outside in either hot or cold climate for extended periods of time
· Required to work additional hours/overtime/weekend when necessary to complete a task and/or move
· May be required to sit (driving) for long periods of time
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
· High school level education
· Experience driving commercial vehicles preferred
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Supervise other drivers, helpers, and packers on location as needed
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:
· Appropriate work boots or shoes
· Adhere to all federal, state, and company safety regulation
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
· Often times, a very busy atmosphere with loading and unloading of trucks from residence and/or warehouse.
· Warehouse activity may also include forklift presence
· Occasional exposure to outside weather conditions
