Lead Heavy Equipment Mechanic - Recycling - Base Salary to 50.00/hour - Sterling Heights, MI
- Our client is a well-established scrap metal recycling company seeking a Lead Heavy Equipment Mechanic to maintain, diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair the heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, and material handling equipment used throughout its recycling operation. This position requires extensive hands-on diesel mechanic experience and the ability to work across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems on a wide range of mobile and industrial equipment.
Responsibilities:
- Diagnose, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair heavy equipment, diesel equipment, trucks, trailers, and material handling equipment used in a scrap metal recycling operation
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems and identify the root cause of equipment failures
- Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs to minimize equipment downtime
- Service and repair heavy-duty trucks and trailers, including roll-off equipment, roll-off trailers, lugger hoists, and PTO/power take-off systems
- Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems, including hydraulic leaks, cylinders, hoses, fittings, and related components
- Maintain and repair scrap material handling and recycling equipment, including grapple cranes, material handlers, excavators with shears, skid steers, balers, industrial compactors, and forklifts
- Diagnose, maintain, and repair gas, diesel, and electric forklifts
- Maintain and repair truck scales and platform scales
- Perform welding and fabrication for equipment repairs and modifications
- Respond to field service and mobile equipment repair calls using a company-provided service truck
- Maintain records of equipment inspections, preventative maintenance, diagnostics, service, and repairs
- Follow applicable safety procedures and equipment maintenance standards
Qualifications:
- 5 years of hands-on diesel mechanic experience, including equipment diagnostics, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair
- Hands-on experience servicing and repairing heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, and material handling equipment
- Experience diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
- Welding and fabrication experience required
- Experience reading and interpreting service manuals, electrical and hydraulic schematics, and technical documentation
- Must have own mechanic tools; additional tools and equipment will be provided
Compensation:
- Base salary in the 30.00 - 50.00/hour range
