Position Overview
We are seeking a board-certified (or board-eligible) Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon to provide surgical dental services in our Cibolo location on a part-time basis. Initially, you will be scheduled approximately 2 days per month, with the expectation to grow to 4 days per month as patient volume and demand increase. You will work alongside our pediatric dental team, providing surgical care that complements our specialty pediatric services.

Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Perform oral surgical procedures in children, adolescents, and patients with special needs, including but not limited to:
- Surgical extractions (primary teeth, permanent teeth)
- Exposure and exposure bonding of impacted teeth (e.g. unerupted canines)
- Minor alveoloplasties and bone smoothing
- Biopsies of oral soft tissues
- Management of cysts or small lesions in the jaws or oral tissues
- Treatment of trauma (lacerations, fractures, avulsions where within scope)
- Collaborate with the pediatric dental team for treatment planning, sedation or anesthesia protocols, and coordination of care.
- Assess and evaluate patients preoperatively, including reviewing radiographs, medical histories, and necessary labs.
- Provide post-operative care instructions and follow-up management (suture removal, monitoring healing, management of complications).
- Maintain accurate charting, operative notes, and compliance with all dental and surgical documentation standards.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols, infection control, sterilization processes, universal precautions, and relevant state/federal regulations.
- Participate in periodic multidisciplinary case reviews with the dental team.
- Assist with emergency surgical needs when on-site (as appropriate).
- Occasionally consult with general/pediatric dentists to provide surgical referral triage and guidance.
- Stay current with continuing education requirements and best practices in oral surgery.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- DDS or DMD from an accredited dental school
- Completion of an accredited Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery residency
- Board certification or board-eligibility in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery preferred
- Active, unrestricted Texas dental license (or eligible to obtain one)
- Proficiency in pediatric oral surgery (or demonstrated experience treating children)
- Knowledge of sedation, anesthesia, and airway management (especially in pediatric setting)
- Ability to read and interpret 2D and 3D imaging (panoramic, CBCT)
- Strong diagnostic, treatment planning, and surgical judgment
- Excellent communication and bedside manner, especially with children and families
- Commitment to teamwork, collaboration, and integrating with a pediatric practice
- Adherence to HIPAA, OSHA, infection control, and safety regulations
Preferred / Desirable Attributes
- Experience working in a pediatric dental or hospital setting
- Experience with sedation/general anesthesia protocols for pediatric patients
- Familiarity with behavior management techniques for anxious or special needs children
- Ability to help expand service offerings (e.g. deeper sedation, implant support)
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage surgical support staff
- Comfortable in a growth-stage practice environment
