Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality respiratory care and therapies to patients across the hospital
- Manage ventilators and respiratory equipment, ensuring safe operation and accurate settings
- Deliver nebulized treatments, oxygen therapy and airway management with clinical precision
- Monitor patient response and collaborate with physicians and nurses to adjust care plans
- Perform patient assessments, document care thoroughly, and contribute to care rounds
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and help maintain departmental standards
- Educate patients and families on respiratory conditions, home therapies and equipment
Qualifications
- Valid Respiratory Therapist license in Vermont or eligibility to obtain VT licensure
- CRT or RRT credential preferred (or equivalent clinical certification)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required; ACLS preferred or willing to obtain
- Comfortable with ventilator management and common respiratory modalities
- Professional, compassionate approach with strong communication and teamwork skills
- Previous acute care or hospital respiratory therapy experience preferred
Education
- Associate's degree in Respiratory Therapy or related field preferred; equivalent clinical training considered
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of respiratory assessment and treatment modalities
- Proficiency with mechanical ventilators and airway management
- Ability to interpret blood gases and adjust therapy accordingly
- Familiarity with infection control and hospital safety protocols
- Clear clinical documentation and effective interdisciplinary communication
- Comfort working in a small critical access hospital setting with varied responsibilities
