Roles & Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day laboratory operations to ensure timely, accurate testing
- Lead and mentor laboratory staff, fostering a collaborative and accountable team
- Work closely with the Laboratory Director on policy and procedural decisions
- Oversee quality control, regulatory compliance (CLIA/CAP), and accreditation readiness
- Coordinate inpatient, emergency, and outpatient specimen workflows across sites
- Develop and refine policies and procedures to improve efficiency and patient safety
- Troubleshoot operational or technical issues and liaise with vendors and clinical teams
- Ensure staffing coverage and schedule coordination, including occasional weekend needs
Qualifications
- Certified Medical Laboratory Scientist: ASCP, AMT, or equivalent required
- Minimum five (5) years clinical laboratory experience
- Minimum two (2) years of laboratory leadership/management experience
- Experience in a hospital setting preferred
- Ability to work occasional weekends as part of coverage
- Strong communication, organizational, and people-management skills
Education
- Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP, AMT, or equivalent)
Knowledge & Skills
- Deep knowledge of clinical laboratory testing and laboratory operations
- Familiarity with CLIA and CAP regulations and accreditation processes
- Experience with quality control, proficiency testing, and laboratory safety
- Skill in policy and procedure development and implementation
- Ability to manage staffing, workflows, and cross-department coordination
- Comfortable with laboratory information systems (LIS) and instrumentation workflow
