Roles & Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day laboratory operations to ensure timely, accurate testing
• Lead and mentor laboratory staff, fostering a collaborative and accountable team
• Work closely with the Laboratory Director on policy and procedural decisions
• Oversee quality control, regulatory compliance (CLIA/CAP), and accreditation readiness
• Coordinate inpatient, emergency, and outpatient specimen workflows across sites
• Develop and refine policies and procedures to improve efficiency and patient safety
• Troubleshoot operational or technical issues and liaise with vendors and clinical teams
• Ensure staffing coverage and schedule coordination, including occasional weekend needs

Qualifications

• Certified Medical Laboratory Scientist: ASCP, AMT, or equivalent required
• Minimum five (5) years clinical laboratory experience
• Minimum two (2) years of laboratory leadership/management experience
• Experience in a hospital setting preferred
• Ability to work occasional weekends as part of coverage
• Strong communication, organizational, and people-management skills

Education

• Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP, AMT, or equivalent)

Knowledge & Skills

• Deep knowledge of clinical laboratory testing and laboratory operations
• Familiarity with CLIA and CAP regulations and accreditation processes
• Experience with quality control, proficiency testing, and laboratory safety
• Skill in policy and procedure development and implementation
• Ability to manage staffing, workflows, and cross-department coordination
• Comfortable with laboratory information systems (LIS) and instrumentation workflow
