What are the responsibilities and job description for the Health Information Release of Information Specialist I (FT Days) position at Allied Services?
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President and the Assistant Director of Health Information, the Health Information Release of Information Specialist I is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely procuring of requests for release of inpatient, outpatient, TRU, SNC, and Rehab Medicine Center information which in turn is essential for receiving prompt reimbursement for services rendered and performing all duties as stated below.
EDUCATION:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of one (1) year Health Information Department experience working with legal aspects and medical record regulations regarding release of information, or similar medical office setting preferred.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITIES OF JOB:
· Answers requests for release of patient information from patients, physicians, other health care facilities, employers, lawyers, law enforcement officials, government agencies, third-party payers, etc., in accordance with regulatory requirements, release of information policies and procedures, federal and state statues, and HIPAA.
· Prepares incoming correspondence for processing: opens and date stamps mail; determines the validity of the authorization for release of information to minimize liability exposure; retrieves the appropriate medical record, analyzes the medical record for completeness, notifies physicians/therapists of reports needed; and, scans into Medical Records Online Copy Service (MRO) the request and only those documents that should be released (minimum necessary). Prepares records for mailing: prints/scans/copies appropriate portions of the medical record as specified by requestor; charges appropriate fees; and, scans/files authorization form into the patient’s medical record. Assists all walk-in requestors needing medical information. Reviews assigned work queue(s) daily and ensures timely processing of all assignments in the queues. (E)
· Performs clerical duties such as answering phones, photocopying, faxing, data entry and processing daily mail. (E)
· Provides weekly notification to Health Information Management of information/reports not yet received by the Health Information Department that are necessary to comply with requests for release of information. (E)
· Verifies accurate and timely release of information by Medical Records Online Copy Service (MRO). (E)
· Responsible for maintaining up-to-date knowledge of laws, guidelines, regulations and procedures for ROI. (E)
· Types cover letters, envelopes, and bills for cost of photocopies for requests not processed through Medical Records Online (MRO).
· Performs special projects as needed per the Health Information Management. (E)
· Participates in department meetings, in-services, continuing education seminars and lectures as requested. (E).
· Maintains working knowledge of Cerner/PCC/Rehab Optima/and Medent computer systems. (E)
