Brief Description
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Training Manager, the Direct Care Worker will assist in the care of consumers in the home by carrying out certain personal care and light housekeeping services in carefully selected situations.
Assigned duties are implemented in a manner appropriate to the age-specific needs of the consumers served.
Type of supervision exercised: none. Jobs reporting to this position: none.
EDUCATION:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Successful completion of one of the following:
Minimum of one (1) year of homecare experience, including the ability to demonstrate competency in skill areas, may be substituted for training certificate as listed above.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES OF JOB:
Provides personal care services conducive to the maintenance of proper hygiene of the consumer.
Performs household services such as light housekeeping, marketing, meal preparation, laundering consumer’s clothing and other household services essential to health care at home.
Helps families help themselves by providing instruction and support in the maintenance of health.
Attends inservice training as scheduled, for a minimum of two (2) hours each quarter.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works in a well-lit office environment and in varying conditions in consumer homes (where conditions may be less than desirable).

- A training program from a Home Care Agency or Registry which meets Department of Health competency requirements.
- A home health aide training certification meeting the requirements of 42.C>F>R>484.36.
