School Based Special Education Teacher (K–12)
Location: Kansas City, KS
Employment Type: Full-time
Pay Range: $45-$55/hr
Duration: 2026-2027 School Year
Position Overview
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team and make a meaningful impact in the lives of students across grades K–12.
Under the guidance of the Special Education Program Administrator, this role is responsible for delivering high-quality, individualized instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs.
The ideal candidate is a collaborative professional committed to fostering inclusive learning environments and partnering closely with general education staff, families, and support teams to ensure student success.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to student needs
- Provide specialized instruction and academic support across K–12 grade levels
- Collaborate with general education teachers to adapt curriculum and instruction
- Deliver small group and one-on-one instruction, tutorial assistance, and behavioral support
- Monitor student progress and maintain accurate documentation in compliance with regulations
- Participate in IEP meetings, parent conferences, and multidisciplinary team planning
- Create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student growth and independence
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university (preferred)
- Valid AZ state teaching certification in accordance with state and district requirements
- One (1) year of prior teaching experience preferred
- Appropriate certification in one or more of the following areas (preferred):
- Standard Elementary Teaching
- Standard Secondary Teaching
- Standard Special Education Teaching
- Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1) endorsement preferred
- Strong understanding of special education laws, practices, and instructional strategies
- Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Must meet all federal, state, and local employment requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age
Additional Requirements (if applicable)
- Current CPR certification
- TB screening (questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray)
- Current health certificate (per state or contract requirements)
