Job description: Data Center Technician
Duties:
- Provision, plan, install, and maintain equipment in the data center including servers network switches and routers.
- Perform rack installs, rack decommissioning, operational readings and inventory management.
- Assist in troubleshooting of facility and rack-level events within internal Service Level Agreements (SLA).
- Order and procure equipment and parts necessary for installations in advance.
- Manage shipping and receiving of parts, hardware, devices and perform associated documentation/updates/notifications .
- Write procedural and policy documentation for internal and external use.
- Coordinate expansion projects with requestors and collaborate with cross-functional teams to support data center operations.
- Supplier will coordinate with OEM or a Customer designated Third party vendor to:
- Rack, install and perform structured cabling less than a 100 ft any new equipment- as required;
- Un-rack, deinstall and remove cabling for any decommissioning per DC change standards- as required as a projec;
- Ensure that coordination with disposal vendor for any equipment removed is disposed of in accordance with DC standards.
- Perform necessary Structured cabling less than a 100 ft as required;
- Perform preventative maintenance activities on a scheduled basis; and
- Coordinate access to the datacenter for Third party vendors (hardware support, circuit installation etc.).
- Coordinate with other remote IT support teams to troubleshoot issues.
- Provide Client SOP based Smart hands support for UPS, PDU, Generator and BMS systems.
- Coordinate with Infosys remote team to Ensure that the BMS System (Nlyte Energy Optimizer) is properly maintained and kept up to date as per the Client SOP.
- Leverage DC tools to Maintain the Datacenter Access log to ensure that any entry to the datacenter is accurately maintained.
- Perform weekly generator tests under load as per Client SOP via smart hands support.
- Coordinate with Building maintenance on any necessary items, as needed.
- Ensure that necessary documentation (as per Hands & Feet scope) is maintained for local government agencies and/or audit purposes.
- Role also serves an on-call function on a rotational basis.
Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge of computer hardware and networking principles
- Familiar with cabling requirements in the data center (copper, fiber, power)
- Proficiency in troubleshooting hardware and software issues
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Previous experience in a field service or data center technician role is preferred
- Familiar with service management tools such as ServiceNow
- Proficient in using hand tools for equipment installation and maintenance
