Community Support Professional (Day Program, Monday to Friday)

FUNCTION

The Community Support Professional provides services to program participants, including instruction in activities of daily living (ADLs), and pre-vocational training.  Support is provided for participants' involvement in community volunteer opportunities, as well as leisure and recreational activities, to promote engagement and skill development in various settings.

REPORTABILITY

Reports directly to: Day Program Supervisor
Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises program participants in the completion of tasks and activities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervision, Training, and Treatment of Persons with Disabilities.
    • Responsible for direct supervision, training, and guidance of assigned program participants.
      • Supervision includes being alert and attentive to the support always needs of the program participants and their surroundings.
      • Must be able to react to medical and safety needs according to individual protocols, guidelines, plans, and agency correspondence.
    • Applies ethical and best practices relating to program participant rights and Agency policy regarding abuse prevention and liability issues in daily practices.
    • Implements agency safety program, practices, and procedures.
    • Utilizes agency protocols in urgent and emergencies (medical, behavioral, environmental).
    • Follows program recommendations provided by IDT professionals (psychological, OT, speech, and physical therapy) as prescribed.
    • Uses common sense and sound decision-making in providing services to individuals with disabilities.
    • Ensures the health and safety of program participants utilizing best practices.
    • Communicates with co-workers, Supervisor, and Director regularly. Follows chain of command in daily procedures/processes/events.
    • Provide non-PSL transportation and PSL transportation services to consumers as required.
    • Provides generalized group instruction to program participants in various areas, i.e., hygiene, safety, social skills, and workplace behaviors.
    • Plans and carries out community experiences to address program participants' training needs, personal preferences, and social integration.
    • Serve as a role model for program participants.
  • Recordkeeping
    • Records data to assist in measuring baseline skill levels for assessment reports and initial
      testing. Assists in the development of program participant training methodologies and
      strategies.
    • Responsible for the collection and maintenance of all prescribed documentation daily
      for all assigned program participants, including, but not limited to, the following: Attendance recording, Behavioral data, Goal-related data, Payroll/production data, Anecdotal reports, Incident and accident reports, Seizure reports, General event reports.
  • Other Responsibilities.
    • Maintains all required training and certifications.
    • Attends in-service training and applies the following concepts: emergency intervention, task analysis, community integration, behavior modification principles, agency goals and objectives, gentle teaching/trying another way, and time studies.
    • Responsible for reading and becoming familiar with the Staff Personnel Handbook and
      all other related Agency Policies and Procedures.
    • Carries out Quality Assurance and Outcome Measurement
    • Implements quality-control programs.
    • Maintains clean driving record throughout employment.

CORE COMPETENCIES & QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma, must be 18 years of age
  • Clean criminal background record required.
  • Clean driving record and valid driver's license required.
  • PSL must be obtained within 60 days of hire.
  • Top consideration given to those with related experience and motivation to improve the lives of persons with disabilities.
  • Successful experience working with individuals exhibiting challenging medical, physical, and behavioral needs.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to maintain constant supervision and care of individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Ability to react appropriately to medical and behavioral emergencies.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize projects.
  • Ability to work productively interdepartmentally.
  • Ability to complete forms and perform general computer-entry tasks.
  • Ability to plan (both long and short term).
  • Ability to deal with a wide variety of people as the Agency's representative.
  • Ability to understand/instruct in fundamental intervention trends for individuals with intellectual disabilities (programmatic and behavioral).
  • Ability to complete surveys and carry out Outcome Measurement.

This is a full-time hourly, non-exempt position starting at $17.77 per hour.

The schedule is Monday to Friday from 8a-3p.  Opportunities for extra hours with transporting participants.
